I give up! Why do witches wear pointy hats?
Good Evening, Everybody...
I looked this up in an "Encyclopedia Of Witches And Witchcraft" - and as far as a real solid answer to this question, it appears that there is none...
There were some possibilities mentioned in the encyclopedia article ( under "Witch's Hat" ):
For instance, the "Dunce Cap" - and also the conical, brimless hats associated with wizards...
Apparently, some centuries back, when witches were depicted, they wore various kinds of head-gear:
including head-kerchiefs, etcetera, or were shown with no hats at all ( particularly the male witches )...
At some point or other, some artist must have decided that witches went with conical, brimmed hats - and that such hats went with witches...
It sort of like that business with pirates and "The Jolly Roger" - which was a late invention in the hey - day
of pirates, and was so typical as one might believe, based on pirate novels and movies and artistic depictions...
Sort of like Santa Claus and all that, as well - bits and pieces of "Santa Paraphanelia" got added over a period of many years, and the generally accepted notion of what Santa must look like was evolved rather serendipitiously over that same period, with contributions by various artists and writers, postcards, commercial advertizement, etc....
Not that I don't believe in Santa! ^^^ { Heaven's Forbid!!! } ^^^

I wonder if the whole pointy hat thing has to do with harnessing energy or something along those lines. I remember back in the '70s seeing these New Age people wearing pyramid hats because, if I remember correctly, it helped to get you right with the universe. Think I'm making this up? Check out the link below...

Having read more than my share of spellbook, book of shadows, ect... Hats of any shape? So not anything to do with it. Skyclad (that's naked) however opinional.
How ever conical hats; seen the Pope or Cardinals, the long tail floppy things worn by the Pharisees, Orthadox crowns, etc.. Perhaps it was a throw over of the Christians expectations of religious figures.

Hey, who turned out the lights? Oh wait, it's that ROCK I'VE BEEN LIVING UNDER!
And, yes, I checked out the trailer on youtube – it didn't really unveil anything plotwise. I wish I knew a little about the storyline...

Keep looking, the newest trailer has a little plot leaking through. I'm talking *spoiler* about the one where t starts with preteen Kirk running the corvette over the grand canyom.

Ok. Show of hands....how many people want Robert Plant to just pack his dang bags and get on the road with Led Zeppelin where he belongs? I was too young in '77 to go see them and I want my Led Zeppelin concert!!! I'll get off my soapbox now, it's really bothering me that he's holding up the deal.

I'm with you, Brad but honestly without John Bonham, it's never going to be the same.

Greetings, Everyone! ~~~
I don't have anything important to say right now, I'm simply dropping by to say hi...
[ Only got about 7 minutes left on this library computer, anyway ] ~~~
My creative continuity ( vis-a-vis letters to the Book Club ) has been severely limited and restrained for several weeks now, on account of my STILL not being able to "get through" and establish any postings on the boards here ( from my computer at home ) ~~~
So, anyway, Holiday Season Greetings To One And All ---
The winter weather has finally settled in around our neck of the woods, after a seemingly endless summer...

Penelope,
Yes I very definitely us the My Barnes and Noble from other people and I use a lot of what gets talk about here, Especially new releases. I always check out reader reviews. If it doesn't have good reviews I won't get it. Always do at least one of the three threads too. I like it when it is an author I haven't read. So copycat me all you like though you will find that I just don't stick to Science Fiction/ Fantasy. I also like Paranormal/Urban Fantasy, Romance and some Mystery.

I wish more people were into their "My B&N" profile pages. I love this concept and check out my friend's pages very often. I find it fascinating how you can "know" someone just by checking out what they're reading, what they're read, etc. More regulars should do this!

You know I set mine up, but haven't really thought to look at other folks too much. Maybe that'll be a New Years resolution. Sounds like a good resource I've been missing

Ah yes! I remember seeing a young guy with a tinfoil pyramid on his head, standing beneath a power transformer one day. (An "only in Calironia" moment.)
Funny nobody listed my favorite Philip K. Dick story-to-movie, TOTAL RECALL. My husband and I also watch INDEPENDENCE DAY (a "must see" for us every July 4th), DEMOLITION MAN and TIMECOP a lot. (Wish they'd release ARMAGGEDON on DVD again. And they even yanked the first MEN IN BLACK!)
For those of you into TV sci fi, you may want to visit crazyabouttv.com, which expounds on TV shows of the past, whether or not they're available on DVD.
