A friend gave me this for my BD. Have you read it?

Classic epic fantasy series. CLASSIC.

I read the first one and enjoyed (not loved) it. Somewhere in book 2 or 3 the S&M/B&D elements turned me off and I haven't checked it out since. Maybe someday I'll give it another try.

Still, it was an immensely popular series, for what that's worth.

That must be why the reviews are all over the place for this series. I past it up (I do not remember why), but my friend insists I try it..so I will. Thanks for the input.

Oh and Paul..all I can think about  from your response are the definitions for epic and classic from that post you did on what a review really means..LOL!!!!

Exactly! How many times can you describe "indescribable pain"? Kind of reminded me of the later"Gor" novels.

Re: Welcome to The Cantina Bar and Grill: Off-topic chat served up here

I just looked at my e-mail and found an e-mail from B&N requesting that I write a review of a book I read and rated. This is the first e-mail I've received from B&N requesting my written review of a book. It's strange.

That is strange.  They used to send me those emails every time I bought a book, then suddenly they stopped, now they have resumed.  Odd; very odd.

If you could have a pet from your favorite fantasy book what would it be?

I guess it would be Hedwig, the snowy owl, even tho HP is NOT my favorite by a long shot.

Haven't even heard of this dalnewt until just now – which is weird because I loved his Nulapeiron sequence (epic SF). I enjoyed his Tristopolis stuff but didn't love it. Absorption is the first in his Ragnarok trilogy, according to his website, and it's grand-scale SF so I'M INTRIGUED. But it says it came out last February – I have heard nothing about this one..... very strange. I'm ordering it now.   :smileyhappy:

-Hi! I'm new to this book club and just wanted to say hi to everyone. Hmmm. Also there's a restaurant here called "The Cantina Bar and Grill". Just out curiosity, I was wondering is that what this thread is named after? If so, then great choice! They make great margaritas. If not then.....whoa! what a crazy coincidence.

Welcome chunky – and it's a reference to the first Star Wars flick!
