Stand on Zanzibar

As good as I remember it.  The only problem with the e-book version is that someone formatted it with an inch of margin on every side (even when I set margins to minimum), which doesn't leave much room for content, so frequent page turns are required.

Don't publishers ever actually try looking at the end result?

Re: What are you currently reading?

Has anyone read this? I got an email from Orbit that it was out. It is a novella that B&N shows as having 84 pages. It is listed as an ebook for 2.99.

A Clash of Kings (HBO Tie-in Edition) (A Song of Ice and Fire #2)

Working my way through the "Song of Ice and Fire" series by George R. R. Martin.  Nearly done with "Clash of Kings."  Loving it!  Between each, as a little break, I'm reading one of the books in the "Wool" series by Hugh Howey.  Also loving it.  Like to balance out my reading.  Follow up a book that takes two weeks or so to get through with one that takes a day or less...

Re: What are you currently reading?

I am reading Predicament Pit by Mike Quigley.

Predicament Pit.jpg

This is Mike's third book.  The first two are non-fiction memoirs about his childhood and growing up.  Predicament Pit however starts as non-fiction, then travels into a very different direction.  Here is the synopsis:

The adventures of Michael Quigley take a turn towards fantasy in Predicament Pit. The now-grown Michael has a family of his own and has settled comfortably in a well-wooded lot that he has, over the years, transformed by his own hands and that he knows like the back of them. But those woods hold a secret - one that Michael has been aware of since childhood, but could not name. This secret propels him into another existence, separate from our own but yet very much a part of us, where Michael is called upon and tested in ways beyond that which his 65 years have asked so far. The Gentle Ones - the beings that inhabit this separate reality - have suffered a tremendous loss and need Michael's help to reclaim what is theirs. What, the doubting Michael wonders, does he offer them? And why him in the first place? What is his connection to the Gentle Ones? It turns out that those questions were answered long before Michael's birth, with the answers having consequences reaching far beyond all of our lifetimes. There are those of us, descendants of the Irish and non-Irish alike, who have felt the presence of the unseen, who have noticed a peripheral movement that vanishes before our full gaze, and who know that there is more to this world and beyond than meets our mere five senses. Predicament Pit offers a "magical mystery tour" of this fantastic reality, charming us at every turn.

You can order it from B&N just be aware that it has no cover picture or synopsis.

Give it a try..I am really enjoying Michael's adventures with The Gentle Ones.

Re: What are you currently reading?

I am reading A Human Element...great book, everything from mystery and suspense to romance and just a bit of the supernatural. As you read about the main characters you can't help but root for them to end up happy and want all the bad things that happen to them to make sense. Laura is adopted by these great people who love her and raise her to be a smart and kind person, but despite all that really awful stuff keeps happening to her. Even her ability to heal doesn't help her. And a crazy deranged killer who can seek Laura out while never being around her is after her for no apparent reason, and even the Man in Black can't help her. Ben on the other hand is so sad and needs some good luck, so what happens...he meets Laura...probably not exactly the good luck he was looking for...or is it? You'll have to read it to find out.

Love this series! This book is beautifully written just like the first one. I feel that I am sitting with the characters listening as Kvothe reveals his story.

Re: What are you currently reading?

Read Jane Lindskold's first 2 books in the wolf series,  "Through Wolf's Eyes" and "Wolf's Head, Wolf's Heart", about a week ago. Good reads, but not sure if i want to read the next one though.

Just finished reading "Ender's Game", great book. couldn't help but notice similarities between it and starship troopers (horrible movie but i liked it). Is the rest of the series worth reading?

now rereading "The Hunger Games Trilogy" before i watch the movie this weekend.

It was on sale for $1.99 back in January so I took a flyer on it. Haven't read him before but definitely will in the future.

Re: What are you currently reading?

I just finished not so long ago:

The Dragonslayer's Sword

It was a neat take with magic and dragons.  Lots of blacksmithing in this as the main character learns and loves her job.

Now, I'm kinda inbetween books, but will start something by Monday. :smileyhappy:

Finished it! Her books continue to amaze me. Even when I think I know where she is headed, there is always a fork in the road. the Little God made me think of Gaiman's Sandman family..DeDe particularly.
