(on my knees bowing) I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy.
I never really ever thought of myself as a SF/Fantasy Geek... Till I read this thread. I would never admit it to anyone else, but.... I am!
AND, I am in good company here.
Thank you for helping me see the light...

Sheesh! I at I was /am a sci fi geek. But you all are loosing me on many references. I played D&D once and never again, not cause it wasnt fun, but I was 18 with two kids and it just didn't resinate. I have read most books those games entertwine with, but not the same.
I was very angry when Alien Nation eded and I still mourn Firefly. The milestones in my life all are remembered along with what I was reading. First boyfreind,Thomas Covenent; tornado that took out the mall (Terre Haute) Watership down. . and LOTR..
Iam scared to admit,.........nver been to a Renne Fair or a Convention. My favorite mags as a youth were OMNI and Heavy Metal. I guess I may not be a SF/fantasy geek, I am just a bookwym

Chuckle. When I was 18, I really, really wanted to play D&D and I tried...but I just...KEPT...DYING. And dying. And dying. People were trying to talk to me silently with their eyebrows and I still kept dying. I had the worst instincts. I needed to get out of the way. Probably would have loved to have been a gamer if I had had the survival skills.

The above qualifies you just fine I believe, lol! I loved Heavy Metal, both the mag and the first movie, although my wife refers to the first movie as "cartoon porn"

OMG – Omni was one of the best magazines ever. Reading that mag when I was a kid opened me up to so many science-related topics, one being SF.... God, I miss that magazine.

1. When someone crosses you and you ask yourself What Would Jack Do?
2. When you still keep supplies in the house in case of the end of the world as we know it...
3. When you have detailed plans and drawings for taking Sam's Club and Home Depot.
4. When the equipment and skills you have acquired for Renfaires and SCA take precedence
over your job skills.
5. When you always know where your towel is.
subsection: it's probably hereditary
6. When your children assume that you to know all of the Wheel of Time characters... and
you DO.
7. When your children expect you to be prepared to be the medical person when the Fire
Dies, and you actually have a forty-pound "first-aid" kit.

When you thought about having some kind of LASIK-style surgery
before Y2K because you wanted to make sure you could _see_ if
world civilization collapsed.
