Hey all,
(wasn't sure which discussion board to post in, sorry if I picked the wrong one)
I'm hard at work on my homework for my Irish Literature course and I've got a bit of a conundrum. I have to discuss the postcolonial themes in "Translations", a famous Irish play. But I can't find a substantial definition of the term 'postcolonial' anywhere in my textbook or online, so I'm having a hard time writing this essay as I'm not exactly sure what I need to be showing. Does anyone out there know of a strong and accurate definition of 'postcolonial' for literature?
Much Obliged!

FictionFanaticKS -- Did you look at the Wikipedia article on postcolonialism? While it is lacking in several academic aspects, It does appear to have some information that should be useful to you.
My extremely simplistic view is that postcolonialism is often the attempt to understand from the perspective of those colonized, rather than from the perspective of the colonists, i.e., often those of the underdog versus of those in power.
