March Discussion: The Promised World

I wanted to announce our March discussion now, so that you'll have more time to obtain the book before we discuss it. The author, Lisa Tucker, will be joining us for about a week, probably the first or second week.

Lisa has been in many of our book clubs before, and is an amazing storyteller and a great book club participant.  I hope you'll check out her website: http://www.lisatucker.com/home.html  where you can read the first chapter of The Promised World

Re: March Discussion: The Promised World

I've read all of her novels, and loved them equally.  As soon as this one came out, I read it.  Without giving this story away, I will have to say, though,  it is the most emotionally complex story she's written to date.  Love will pull you in every direction, and with that in mind, you will find a mystery inside of each of these characters, but it must be found and applied with care and understanding.  I would love to take part in this discussion.

Oh I am so excited for book #2 (#2 for me anyway)!  I already put my request at the library.  Hopefully the wait isn't too long!

I'm looking forward to seeing Lisa again, too. I promise to be good, mom.  Well, as good as I can be :smileyhappy:  Although, I can't promise I won't become a blithering, blubbering idiot. Just when I said I wasn't going to divulge anything more personal about myself on these boards, I have the feeling this discussion is going to be a tell-all..Ugh!   I'm looking forward to hearing what others have to say....

Kathy,

I'm not worried.  I think it's going to be a great time - can't wait to talk with Lisa about her latest.

You don't have to make it personal- you can always say you're talking about a "friend" you know! :smileyhappy:

Hello, my friend!  :smileyvery-happy:

I was just kidding...it's all about this story, The Promised World, and Lisa, not me.

It's her day to shine.

And we'll all have a wonderful time!

Re: March Discussion: The Promised World

I just closed the book two seconds ago and I have to admit the second half of the book really captured me.  I spent my entire Saturday reading it to the very end.  It was an incredibly complex story with deep meaningful characters.  I really love that each of the chapters are coming from a different perspective.  It really helps you understand Ashley.  Without her point of view she would of seemed so one-sided and stereotypical.  But you come to understand her as a loving mother who is human and made a few mistakes.  Coming from a woman who is also married to a brilliant husband, it is not always easy!

Great story and most importantly wonderful characters.  If Lisa joins the discussion I would love to hear who and what inspired the story.

I completely agree about Ashley - and I wished that Billy had helped her more- she certainly wasn't a stupid woman, and if he'd encouraged her she might have felt less inferior.

Lisa will be here tomorrow to talk to us.

That's beautiful!

I'm going to start a question thread for Lisa - so put your questions for her there, and she'll likely be in later today or tomorrow.

March Discussion: Book Tours

As I was thinking about Book Tours, I ran across this interesting article, "Book tour?  More like a safri."   I thought you would like to read it.

I posted it in our Kingdom of Wordsmithonia, in the Wordsmith Words. This is the link to it.

The Promised World - The plot thickens

[ Edited ]

Daylight savings time..Didn't bother to turn my clocks ahead an hour, until this morning.  Then debated whether or not I should post more self indulgent thoughts about this book.  I'm starting to look/feel like a monologue once more.  All's quiet on the western front.

good morning, Kathy!

good morning, everyone!

how's it going?

not too bad.  How's by you all?

going good!

you want to talk about this book of Lisa's?

Not sure if we can.

why not?

I dunno, just dunno.

okay, I guess I'll keep plugging along at my own plodding pace.  And the plot continues - btw, what do you all think the plot is?

I dunno.

Well, that was invigorating!  Now I'll turn the rest of my clocks ahead.   And the plot continues----

into dreams and plots, plots and dreams.....

head long into chapter fifteen.

Re: March Discussion: Book Tours

Kathy,

Thanks for sharing  - while I don't think readers will become increasingly provincial because publishers aren't sending authors on tours, I do think it's a shame that it's not more cost effective for them.

And there was a moment there when I had a strong urge to move to Laredo and open a bookstore.
