Re: Tell us what you're reading right now and what's next on your shelf

I love when an author can write a book that imitates real life as a piece of fiction and is able to keep you on the edge of your seat for sleepless hours as you flip page after page....ESPECIALLY when it is months or years later that you find out that the book you read and loved Was based on life!!!

The Codex

The Codex by Douglas Preston is such a book.  Yesterday afternoon  I was watching CNN and a reporter was interviewing someone about a man named Forrest Fenn from Santa Fe, Mexico who is a real life Indiana Jones.  WOW, I thought,  that sounds just like a book I read.  After a little digging (like, reading the CNN article on the internet), sure enough, it was The Codex that we had read last spring and both my husband and I had been mesmerized by.

You won't want to put it down.  But where do you separate the fact from the fiction?  Okay, he did change the names and the places  (can't give away the location of the loot!!!!), but WOW, what a cliff hanger.  No pun intended!!!!

For the CNN article:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2012/08/19/forrest-fenn-wants-you-to-find-his-treasure-and-his...

Enjoy,

Mountain Muse

A really good book is much like an artichoke. As you peel back each page of the of the book, you get closer and closer to the succulent heart of the story.

Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend

it is funny, poignant, sad, and so touching

Debbie,

You have found my soft spot.  I went and got my box of kleenex and have the book downloaded.  Doc and Fred have ordered some down time....so it sounds like reading time to me. :-)

Muse, you won't need too many tissues for this one and don't put it too far out of reach because Matthew has agreed to be my featured author next June when the forum reads this novel

here is the interview I did with him and my review too.

enjoy

ps. It's sooooooo goooood to see you on my board again my friend, I know that things have been hopping for you and I hope with the coming autumn you can take a breath of fresh mountain air :smileyhappy:

here's the link to Matthew's post-

Thanks, Deb.    The read is far enough off, I think I can get away with reading it now AND then :-).  I am SOOOOoooo looking forward to a quiet fall.  And I'm glad to be finding a few minutes here and there to stick my head back in.

Thanks for your post.  I have some off these on my "waiting to read" shelf that I downloaded when they were free.  Thanks for letting us know you enjoyed them.  I may have to bump them up on my reading list.

Hey, Karen!  Good to see you.  I see you from time to time on FB, where the world meets, and the seasons change!

I think I'm going to get this book too, but I'll save it to read later on.  I still have enough books to read, to get me through the fall and into next year! A stack, and I am such a SLOW reader.

I hope so, too.  :smileyhappy:  I ordered it last night.

I was reading Lynne's book last night (yes, I'm still reading it) and I literally couldn't put it down.  At first I was reading it slowly, wanting to feel and obsorb all of what she was trying to tell us through her characters, but last night was such an exciting part, I was up until 3a.m., on the edge of my seat (bed) but then had to put it down and go to sleep!  This story is building, and I'm anxious to move through it at a faster pace.  I'm trying not to stop and edit everything I see!  My downfall :smileysad: ,  since Lynne is in my writer's group!

Re: Preparing for Issac

[ Edited ]

Happy Friday peeps

We're battening down the hatches waiting for Issac's remnants to blow into the Midwest so it looks like all holiday weekend outside plans will be a wash out, but we need the rain so bad I don't think most people will mind, except for the kids who'll miss their last weekend at the pools.

So I guess I should read :smileyhappy:

Here's what's on my reading plate

Hemingway's Girl which is my Tuesday New Release feature and I have a Q&A w/Erika Robuck

Then I'll be starting to read for RT's December issue starting with

The Defender

Then I 'll start on my HQN Presents and Special Edition series reviews

So will you be reading, partying, sleeping late

tell all :smileyhappy:

And what ever you do stay safe and have fun!!!

Re: Preparing for Issac

Invisible (Ivy Malone Series #1)

I am finally getting around to reading this book that I downloaded as a freebie some time ago.  So far, I will give this funny, light-hearted mystery a thumbs-up.

Have a safe Labor Day weekend and be careful in the rain!

Re: Preparing for Issac

Thanks Barry for the plug, I hope she enjoys it too.

I'm reading a novel that mirrors our current weather

It'a a good read based in the 1930's Florida Keys and of course there's a Hurricane involved, be sure and watch for my Q&A with author Erika Robuck on Tuesday
