Any chance that it is, "This place has no atmosphere by Paula Danziger?"

10-05-2011 09:44 PM I would really like help with these... There was a book club for young adult girls in the early to mid-80s that sent auto shipments every month or so. I only remember a couple of the plot lines, but would love to start rediscovering these. 1. One book was about a petite girl who becomes a teen model. 2. A book about a young (not so popular girl) who builds dollhouses as a hobby. She starts working with another dollhouse enthusiast who happens to be the mother of a popular boy at school. The two begin working on dollhouses together. 3. A girl moves to an island or Cape Cod-like community and meets a boy. I seem to remember a mystery regarding a lighthouse or the beach or...something. Wish I could be more helpful on these but it has been over 20 years. :-) I'm also trying to remember another set of books that were around at the same time as the Sweet Valley High and Cheerleaders books. These books involved three sisters - all very different. One was athletic, one was bookish smart and I can't remember about the third. Sound familiar to anyone? Thanks in advance!!! I don't have the name of the book, but I swear the same series pops into my head from time to time. I remember the book about the petite model. Her name is Maggie, her friend is Brenda, and Maggie has a crush on a guy named Matt who is a pilot. It's set in Alaska. if that rings any bells to anyone, please help, because it drives me crazy that I can't figure this out!
Hi and I'm sorry but I don't have a clue, but my daughter was a pre teen then and I'm going to ask her, I know she read the series The Babysitters Club, but I don't know if that is the series you're looking for.
and also if you haven't you might mention this on the lost books forum too.
Good luck and I'll see what I can find out

hi, bit late to this post, but love it :-)
I'm always remembering books from when i was a kid and then never being able to remember the title. there are a few on here i'm sure I have read but I'm as clueless as the poster about the names so can't help!
maybe someone could help me though- I have been trying to remember a particular book - i think there was at least two in the series- i read that involved two friends. One I am sure was called Joy. she was a little stuck up and odd with long blonde hair that turned green after a summer swimming in the over chlorinated local pool. There was also a theme about David Thoreux. The title may have had something to do with backflips or handstand in it.
any further details - anything really- would be so good. It's like an itch I can't scratch and its driving me mildly mad!

Hi Ven, thanks for your post. It doesn't ring any bells for me but then I'm older than to have read ya in the 80s or 90s. But I hope someone can help you.

i remember in early 80's a book series of horror stories for kids/tweens. i cannot remember the name of the series which is killing me, but this i do recall: One book was about teen twin girls, one was in a wheelchair after an accident, then in another book a teen had an imaginary "friend" since childhood (actually a demon) named Kim. then there was one about a teen rock band that made a deal with the devil, then overnight they played better, looks improved & became a huge success, but during their performances they would become "posessed"...
the covers were minimal. black with single pictures of the characters. i believe each story may have been written by different authors, but under the same series "umbrella" -- definitely NOT Goosebumps as i looked into that lead already....
HELP!!!!

Hi,
this was 'why can't life be a piece of cake?' by tricia springstubb - the one about a gymnasium was the earlier one - i think that was about egg sandwiches or something?!

I don't suppose you're still following this thread but i remember these books! I can't remember the name though but the poor girl stole money from a business project and bought clothes with it and satyed on her own in a quiet dorm. If you remember/find out the title, please let me know! thanks.

Love this thread - I used to love all the Christopher Pike and Caroline B Cooney books when i was little - but had forgotten about Lois Duncan, so thank you!
Does anyone remember a series of books about four sisters? one was superficial and popular and her book was about something to do with buying a raincoat - london fog or something? there were three other stories about the other three sisters, including one where a friend shoplifted and then blamed the girl.

Okay...this is a long shot because I don't have a lot of details but here goes...
When I was younger I read this series of books (early 1990s) that had an occult theme. All I can remember is that there was the main character who was a young boy, his african american friend who enjoyed playing the bongos, and the main characters grandfather/uncle. In one of the subplots of one of the books the main character's friend gets possessed by something.
Google saves the day. I remembered that one of the books had the word "clock" in the title so I searched for "young adult 1990s book clock" and the ninth result was the authors name (John Bellairs). Wow!
