Killing me that I can't remember the titles...

It was a two book series about a group of young girls who were going on a sailboat trip.  There was a wreck and they were stranded on a deserted island where they set up camp until they were rescued. They were there quite a while I think. I remember one of the girls was artsy and took the sail of the canvas to make a tent shelter and painted flowers all over it. I think eventually they used it to make a signal fire.

Really hoping someone can help out! It would make my day.

Try the Lost Books thread, too.

Use a catchy msg title like YA - artsy gal paints flowers on shipwreck-sail tent, i.e., maximize the chance the reader will recognize from the title or at least be motivated to read your entire message.

Re: Young Adult Book Nostalgia (From the 1980s and early 1990s)

I devoured the Babysitters Club books when I was a kid in the early 90s, as well as anything by Judy Blume.  In the late 80s I loved the Ramona Quimby series and pretty much everything else by Beverly Cleary.  She was the author that really turned me into a bookworm!

When I was a teenager in the mid-90s, I absolutely loved Robin Jones Gunn's Christy Miller series and Sierra Jensen series.  I am a writer too and I like to think that my style is very similar to Ms. Gunn's.  She's still one of my very favorite authors.

Re: Young Adult Book Nostalgia (From the 1980s and early 1990s)

Caelrea,

I think the books you’re looking for are from the Witch Season series by Jeff Mariotte.

Hope this helps!!

:smileyhappy:

Hi, I've got a mystery book I really hope someone can remember, its a three part series I believe about three orphaned sisters who live in a cottage in a supernatural world and theyre all witches. Heres what I remember...

-Theyre all named after the seasons, like Summer, Winter, and Autum.

-Winter had black hair and fell in love with the prince or king I think.

-Summer was blonde and had a baby with a traveler she had healed.

-Autum had red hair and fell in love with a shape-shifter and then changed into a wolf or something.

-In the end they all had to use theyre powers together to save the kingdom.

I don't really remember much else, but any help would be great!

Re: Young Adult Book Nostalgia (From the 1980s and early 1990s)

We should start a list. I've been collecting books I read as a child for my library.  Books I read 80s-90s are:

Otherwise known as sheila the great

the secret garden and a little princess (of course)

harriet the spy

nothing's fair in fifth grade

daphne's book

the best little girl in the world

dear mr. henshaw

Girl talk: a new you

Just as long as we're together

karen kepplewhite is the worlds best kisser

the agony of alice

a summer to die

ALL of Judy blume's books

I wish I could remember all of them so that I could have a huge library of them...anyone else?

thanks fallingpieces, that's quite a library. I think there are a few of us too old to list children's books of that era but not everyone.

Okay  chime in.

The eighties. Back when it wasn't really called young adult - or was it?

I remember V.C. Andrews. But Andrews first came out on the 70's, didn't it? Otherwise, most of my eighties was filled with Anne Rice, Clive Barker and Stephen King. Not exactly young adult, lol!

Re: Young Adult Book Nostalgia (From the 1980s and early 1990s)

The books you are looking for are by Caroline B. Cooney--I think three of them are: Saturday Night, New Year's Eve,and Last Dance. I loved reading about perfect Anne, crazy Gwenny, Emily, and devious Molly.

Hi !

Loving this post...I have been trying to come up with the name of a 4-book-series & am hoping someone could help!  It was about 3-4 girls in their senior year of high school?  One is dating the "perfect" boy & gets pregnant?  Another one is engaged & throws her engagement ring into a pool at one point?  One is a girl (I think named Molly), who everyone hates - who wears a green and black dress with cutouts to a dance (much to the chagrin of everyone else)...also, a girl named Gwennie (?!?) is allowed to dress wildly outside of her house, but not in it?  I believe most of the books revolved around a dance of some type, with one at a New Years Eve party...

Sorry, these are the most random of memories - its been about 20 yrs since I read them, but any help would be SOOOO appreciated!  :smileyhappy:

Hi Pittsburghgirl, welcome to the fiction general discussion, I'm Stephanie aka shadowcat80 I'll answer to both anyways, it's great to see a new face on the board.  Make yourself at home and enjoy the forum.  Have a good day and happy reading

Just a quick suggestion, you could do a post under the introduce yourself thread and tell us more about yourself.

Hi Wildflower -- I believe the book you're thinking of is "Stranger with my face."  About a teenage girl, turns out she's adopted, and had a twin sister.  People start telling her they saw her with someone when she was somewhere completely different, and she dabbles in astral projection, and her twin sister, who is in a mental hospital, takes over her body.  I loved this when I read it back in middle school. :smileyhappy:

Re: Young Adult Book Nostalgia (From the 1980s and early 1990s)

Mystery series - although i think they were from mid-90s then re-released under a different title in the 2000s.

1st book is about a girl and her best friend who is african american - i think her name starts w/ a C. they go to this island b/c the main girl is doing some kind of park ranger-type internship. the year before, she'd been at the island and dated this hot guy. she runs into him again this year. he's an islander. the 2 girls end up renting a big house so they have to find roommates. an irish guy moves in and some other random people. anyone know this one?

Re: Young Adult Book Nostalgia (From the 1980s and early 1990s)

I REALLY hope someone can help me!  This has been driving me crazy for weeks now...

What is the name of a young adult book about a teen girl moving to a new town and being haunted by the ghost of a boy in her bedroom?

This book was written in the late 1990s. The boy is from the 1950s or 1960s. The girl lives with her mom and little brother. They used to be wealthy but now are poor due to recent divorce. The girl is uptight and snooty with a bad attitude. She took over boy's room and he is haunting her over it. She is the only one that can see him. He wears leather jackets and keeps his hair slicked back with a comb that looks like a switchblade. It was part of either a sequel or trilogy of books. The girl and boy start off not liking each other then wind up being friends.  She even winds up making friends with a kooky girl in her class because the popular kids want nothing to do with her.
