I am going to start reading your book tonight! Thank you for the great set up. I look forward to hating Sam and then having her grow on me. I can't wait to start discussing it.

Re: Dear First Look Readers

Lauren,

Thank you so much for the introduction to your new book. Your insights were very helpful. Young adults face so many challenges in today's society and you have addressed them all.

It seemed unusual for an author to "wish" for readers to dislike the main character. At the beginning of this book, I totally disliked Samantha, but I was unable to let go of her. Your reference to "hope" was certainly relevant; because I kept hoping to see the real human being come to surface.

Your book is remarkable.

Re: Dear First Look Readers

Dear Lauren,

Thanks so much for the nice intro you wrote! I absolutely love the book you wrote!! I finished it in record time that I've ever finished a book. I could not put it down, it was absolutely amazing!!! I totally agree with you because when I started reading the book, I thought Sam and her friends were really rude and mean to other people but then as the book went on she got better and realized that what she was doing the whole time was wrong. I love the message of the story and I wish all teenage kids would read it. It is truly an amazing book! I hope you have a sequel:smileywink:

Re: Dear First Look Readers

I just got the book on Monday and I started reading it right away. I am not finished yet but am only on the third chapter. So far i love the book but as Lauren said I don't like Sam. All of the things that her and her friends do make me kind of angry and I hope no one in my school turns out like that even though I know some girls who are already heading down that path. I am only in eigth grade so I know all of the pressures  there are for teenage girls and you have done a great job so far portraying that in your book.

Re: Dear First Look Readers

I got my book a few days ago and I'm already hooked on it. I bring it with me wherever I go. I'm excited to see how Sam changes, because unfortunately I've met many people like her and her friends. This book is great so far and I can't wait to discuss it!

Re: Dear First Look Readers

Lauren, I think you've just about hit the nail on the head as for what you hope and how the book comes across!  I'm already pitching this one to my students, and three have already begged me to borrow my copy (I'm not ready to turn it loose, though!).

First, I'd like to just say it's amazing of you to come and post on the topics. I really look forward to reading Before I Fall.

Your introduction actually makes it even more intriguing than it already was!

Re: Dear First Look Readers

Thanks so much I have just read the introduction and I actually loved it, even though at first I thought hmmm this characters seem a lil bit unrealistic, I realized there are lots of Sams around lol

Re: Dear First Look Readers

Thank you so much for giving us the oppurtunity to read your book like this.  I'm an English teacher and I'm always on the look out for more books that get my students reading.  But to find a book they'll read and forces them to look at what they believe and know is even better. I hope to find that in Before I Fall.

Lauren, thanks for your introduction to the book. I always love reading what authors have to say about their books. I received my book on Monday and already I'm having a hard time putting it down. I can't wait for the discussions to start!

Re: Dear First Look Readers

What I think makes books so interesting is how the do not just tell stories about lives, they become windows into lives and experiences. I think in one form or another we have experiences that all bring us to certain moments in time and we are left to choose right or left, up or down, etc. Choices make each of us unique and special. I cannot wait for my copy to come and just jump right into this book.

Lauren,

Your book so far is amazing!

I really like the storyline. It's so original, fresh, and new. Like noting I've read in awhile!

Re: Dear First Look Readers

Thanks for giving us this amazing opportunity! I received the book last Thursday and immediately started reading. I couldn't put it down until I finished it yesterday. I can't stop thinking about the characters. It was such a powerful story that I don't even think I'll be able to completely express my thoughts for a few days.

Re: Dear First Look Readers

I like the idea of changing your perspective of someone with their development throughout the book. I am very curious how many people after reading the book (I have only read the first section we will be discussing on Monday) will admit that not only did they know people like Samantha and her friends, but that they were like Samantha and her friends and how they decided to grow and change? It is definitely too early to discuss this, but I had to bring it up because quiet a few people have commented that they "knew/know" people like this.

Very excited to start the discussion....and finish the book....it is so hard to follow the schedule!

Re: Dear First Look Readers

Lauren

I received my book a few hours ago and finally found time to scan through the first few pages (the italicized stuff). I have to say that I am drawn in already. I can just imagine how much of your heart and soul you've put into this and, as with every book I read, am honored that I get a chance to share in that. I am looking forward to hating sam and her friends, as you wish, and eventually, hopefully, falling in love with her. Thanks for giving us all the opportunity to share in this with you!

Re: Dear First Look Readers

What can I say that another people hasn't said yet?? I'm reading the book and when I began the first pages, it seemed to me that the character, Sam, she was shallow and I almost hated her but, little by little, I'm discovering what there is under that layer of popularity and "we-are-the-best-don't-doubt-it" mood. Thanks for your book, Lauren!!

Re: Dear First Look Readers

Congratulations Lauren on the book!!! I am halfway thru and just like you wanted me too.. I do not like Samantha and her friends.. they are horrible girls.. but remind me so much of myself and what I thought was so important in high school.. anyways I am loving it so far!! I can't wait to find out what's going to happen next and how the story is going to end.. but at the same time I don't want it to end. I'll be back again after I finish it! again congrats!! the book is amazing!
