This is the only book with a first person point of view I've read in which the main character dies. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it immensely. It makes me happy that at least book characters can fix their lives the way Sam tried to do. It makes me wonder, since authors obviously have these ideas because they write about them, if actual people could employ such actions so as to affect the people around them in a positive way. I don't see that very often outside of church, and I wish everyone could think a little less of themselves.

The fact that she didn't manage to save herself really stuck with me. It was sad in the way it has to be, and yet I still felt so satisfied by the end. She learned some really valuable lessons, and saved Juliet in the process. It's unusual for me to feel so content with a sad ending, and I think that just goes to show how strong Lauren Oliver's writing is.

I loved this book, read all of it in two days between work and college. I've already been recommending it to my friends. I loved that high school seemed to be captured so well. My high school was very similar. I still find myself mourning over Samantha. I wanted her to miraculously survive somehow and be with Kent. I get an ache when I think about him finally getting to be with the one he loves and then her dying within the same night. So tragic. I guess that's a compliment to the author that I got so connected to the characters and feel so much for them. Amazing read, cannot wait for more books by Lauren Oliver. Thanks!
