Casting Call!

What a wonderful novel for all of our armchair directors to take on!

It is your job to cast the film version of Eternal on the Water. Who is Cobb? Who is Mary? Wally? Francis? Please cast your favorite characters for us!

Re: Casting Call!

I can not wait to see who everyone picks for these interesting characters. This will require some serious thought on my part!

Re: Casting Call!

I just don't know if there is an actress alive who can play Mary.  Mary is perfect!  Everything she does works out.  She makes everybody happy.  Everybody loves her.  I've got to get back to you on this............

Re: Casting Call!

Ok, here's what I've got.

Mary - Marisa Tomei - She seems to be a pleasant person, always smiling.

Cobb - Chris Pine  -  The new Capt. Kirk

     Joan - Merle Streep

John & Annie - My go to man, George Clooney and Maggie Gyllenhall (sp?)

Pole and Cobb's dad - Harrison Ford and Jeff Bridges

     Francis - Usher

This is supposing I have an unlimited budget :smileyhappy:

Re: Casting Call!

Wally - Melissa McCarthy (played Sookie on Gilmore Girls)

Mary - Diane Lane or Meg Ryan (These are kind of hard for me, the people I see are older than the characters heh)

Re: Casting Call!

What a fun question!

Actually, I did imagine some of the characters as certain actors when visualizing the story.

Cobb- Ryan Gosling

Mary- no one in particular except as I imagined her

Francis- a young Rob Brown (from Finding Forrester)

Wally- Margo Martindale (Camilla from Dexter season 3)

I agree!  Nice combo (also remembering You've Got Mail).

Re: Casting Call!

This is hard but after some thinking I would say:

Cobb - Josh Duhamel

Mary -  Jennifer Love Hewitt

Francis - a younger Macauley Culkin(sp)

John and Annie - Matthew McConnahey(sp) and Evangeline Lilly

Wally - Meryl Streep

Cobb--Eric Bana

Mary--the actress who played Claire on Lost

Wally--the woman who plays Big Alice on General Hospital

Minor change in ethnicity but I'm guessing you mean that type of an actor, not Macaulay Culkin himself.

I can see Will Smith's oldest son as Francis (though he's a little young for the part right now but he's got the pedigree in him and has shown promise so far).

Cobb - Matt Damon
Mary - Maggie Gyllenhaal
John and Annie - Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan
Wally - Kathy Bates
Freddy - Matthew McConaughey (after gaining some weight) - he's the perfect personality to live on a beach saving turtles.

I love these choices!  I can also see George Clooney and Vera Farmiga (from Up in the Air) together as John and Annie.  Just a perfect match! :smileyhappy:

Re: Casting Call!

Mary – Hilary Swank; she’s strong looking, not cutesy, and the right age.  (Meg Ryan??  Really?)

Cobb – Jake Gyllenhaal,  he’s a bit younger than Hilary but looks the private school teacher, plus can handle outdoorsman convincingly.   You can see Mary urging him through the rapids.  And sensitive enough to go along with the Chungamunga girls ceremonies.

I could buy Harrison Ford as the dad, but he’s such a huge presence he might have to tamp it down. A fine character actor would probably be better.

Wally – Kathy Bates, although Meryl Streep would put an interesting twist on it.  She’s brilliant enough to pull it off.   This could be a great role for an African American actress as well.

Freddy – Russell Crowe, or a brawly lookalike who’s maybe 10 years younger

.

Anne – Renee Zellweger, can play glamour, but great at girl next door friendliness

Joan – Susan Sarandon, same strong looks as Hilary Swank, avoids the regal bearing of a Mirren, who just looks too untouchable to be a nurse.

I'm thinking I'm WAY over budget as well!

Re: Casting Call!

I pictured

 Freddy as Ashton Kutchner

Mary as Jennifer Gardner

Not sure for the rest but I like the ideas I've seen.

Re: Casting Call!

You're right about Francis, a MacCauley Culkin type but not MacCauley himself.  I also thought of Jaden Smith who actually would be better at that, but needs to be a little older!  Thanks!

Re: Casting Call!

You're right about the woman that plays big Alice on General Hospital playing Wally, she would be perfect and I didn't think of her and I watch GH all the time!

I love these choices! Esp. a heftier Matthew M. for Freddy! I agree he would be perfect.

There have been so many good ideas for Wally in everyone's posts. I like all of them - maybe my favorite one is Alice, from GH!!!
