I think if I ever counted how many books I have around to read at some point I would go crazy.  They are stashed all over my house!  Whenever I finish one that I don't plan to reread I try to pass it on in some way- through paperbackswap.com or to a friend or book sale.  I need more space.  If only there were more time to read!

I'm really enjoying the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. If you like reading young adults, you'd enjoying reading this. It's action packed with some humor mixed in.

The Little Stranger

I just finished reading

The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to tell someone about it! It's a ghost story set in Britain in the 1940s. The members of the Ayres family, who have had money for generations, are struggling to keep their ancestral home in shape. Their struggles are narrated by a local doctor, who is the son of one of the family's maids. He arrives at the house serendipitously, but becomes increasing entangled in the family's troubles. Ms. Waters has crafted wonderfully rich characters, and the plot really draws you into their world. This book especially appealed to me in its handling of the genres of the gothic, historical fiction, and mystery.

I loved the Red Tent. Borrowed that book out and it is still circulating.

My book club also read Good Harbor by Diamant.

Re: Community Room

The Lost Symbol was not one of Dan Brown's better works. It covered an interesting topic but I felt that the story fell short. Try Deception Point or Digital Fortress, which I believe are more thrilling and better written than his latest effort.

No, I have not read Good Harbor....I will add it to my list.

Yes, I saw some of the BN reviews for Day after Night, just wondered if someone on this forum had read the book as well.  Thanks all!

Thanks for the lead on Little Giant.  It looks good, exactly something I would like.  I'm going to get it at the library.  Have you ever read The Giant's House by Elizabeth McCracken?  I read it many years ago, and it reminds me of your book.  I enjoyed its quirky topic.

Re: Community Room

I agree that I was very disappointed in The Lost Symbol. I have not read Deception Point or Digital Fortress but plan to soon. Angels and Demons is one of my favorite books though. It was more adventurous. I did like the story behind The Lost Symbol with the historical content and thought all the theories that the book is based on are very interesting. Unfortunately, it was very predictable and a lot like his previous books.

Personally I read books before I watch the movies. For example if I had not read Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone first I wouldn't have enjoyed the movie. There were so many missing parts in the movie and having read the book first it was fun to put faces to the characters and to understand what went on from scene to scene from reading what was left out already.

I was SO disappointed with the movie. But I should have known; it is almost always that way for me.

I totally agree!  Most of the time I want to see the movie versions just to see their vision of the book but I am almost always disappointed with the movie!  For books I really enjoyed (Time Travelers Wife included) I don't even see the movie because I don't want to ruin my visual of it!

The Outlandish Companion

For those reading the Outlander series, I recommend this book.  It is like having a discussion about the series with the author.  She provides so much interesting information about the series and it is pure fun to read.  She wrote it to be read after Drums of Autumn, the fourth book, but I wish I had read it after I finished the first book in the series.

Re: Community Room

Thanks for the advice. I've read a few bad reviews about it so it's good to hear that someone thought it was helpful. I'm reading the 4th book know so I guess it might not be a bad idea to read it. Do you think it also helps to refer to the companion when reading later books as well?

I just finished listening to the audiobook version of the road. What a powerfully dark read. It will stick with me for some time to come.

Re: Community Room

I read the Road this year. That was one of the best books I have read.

I was completely involved with the characters, but not one name was used in the book.

That still baffles me to have a whole book without a name used, just son, father, etc.

Re: Community Room

I just finished the last book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians today, and I can honestly say the series was a fantastic read. I'm almost heartbroken that I'm finished with it. I'm picking up Shiver this afternoon at the library, and I still need to read Her Fearful Symmetry, I put it aside to read the Percy Jackson series. So many books, so little time. Blah lol.

It baffled me at first too, but after a little ways into it,I decided it worked really well having no names involved.

I am almost finished with Day After Night.  I have to say I haven't really been able to get into it.  I loved The Red Tent so have been disappointed with Day After Night.  Not sure if it's just a bad time to be reading it (holiday stuff interfering too much) or what but having a hard time picking it up to finish.
