I posted my review. I want to thank Paul, Rachel and B&N for the First Look Book Club, an excellent idea, and especially to Joe for writing such a great novel and allowing us to so gently delve into the soul of his book.

I'm glad I was "forced" to read this book. One of the best of 2010 for me (so far).

Done and done! I loved this novel. It was so beautiful, I could not put it down. I adored Cobb and Mary, and their open and frank love story. So well written for the context as well. Thank you for beautiful work!

I really liked Mary and Cobb's relationship. They were true soulmates, and lived and loved life. I was drawn to Mary's quirky humor. I loved the many aspects of nature and animals throughout the book which is good because I love both a lot. I havent read a book lately with so much mention of animals/nature.I really enjoyed visiting places like Indonesia which I probably will never see personally. It allowed me to an armchair traveler. Even though I knew it was coming her death was so sad. I felt like I was there personally. My husband and I were with my Stepmom when she died and I sort of relived that moment which happened almost 8 years ago. Someone earlier had mentioned they didnt like mention of brands. I rather like it when an author does that because it makes the book more real to me, like mentioning real products and real companies. I liked the Q&A part at the end of the book.Probably our group didnt need this so much because we have the author visiting us and we have the opportunity to ask questions, but most readers wont get that chance.
Anyway, I did enjoy reading it, and glad to be one of the first readers.

Posted 01/29/10: Mr Monninger has created a beautiful story that reminds us to live each day to its fullest. He has created unforgettable characters, my particular favorite is the Chungamunga girls. When you are finished reading you will want to take a trip down the Allagash River in hopes of meeting them. I highly recommend this book to all and it is a wonderful book club choice.

Thank you Paul and First Look for providing us the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
I wish my review could have been more positive, but unfortunately I was with the minority in that I had to force my way through the story. More than once I put it down.. and I really wish it had been different.

Eternal on the Water was a totally awesome book. Even though we know the ending it was a joy to experience the love of Mary & Cobb. The nature was fantastic. This book reminded me of my husband and myself and the lake that we live on. I did not want this book to end. Thank you so very much for sharing what is probably the best book I have read in years.

Isn't it interesting how different we read. I didn't notice any brand names throughout the book. I'm sure they are there - just didn't hit my horizon.
