Later Chapters and Whole Novel

[ Edited ]
Please use any of the following questions to start discussing the last chapters of Hush Hush, but also feel free to introduce comments and questions of your own! Also, please remember that all spoilers are welcome in this thread!
Why does Vee defend Elliot and Jules? Why does Elliot help Jules/Chauncey?

How is Patch's relationship with Nora different from the one that got him expelled from Heaven? Why did he resist becoming a guardian angel?
We've had some talk about Nora taking iron as a clue to her own supernatural traces--did any other aspects of the story or Nora give you clues to this? Her "hearing" nonverbal communication with Patch?

What does Dabria want from Nora? What does she want from Patch? Why is she an important character?
We've heard there is another book on it's way to follow this one. Where do you think this relationship between Nora and Patch will go from here?

Why does Jules/Chauncey hate Patch so much?
Also please feel free to continue comparing the two endings in this thread, too!

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

Vee's defense of Jules and Elliot were because of the telepathic inferences made by Jules and it's why she didn't really see who they really were.

Elliot helps Jules, because he's a sheep, all he needs is someone to follow, but he's also drawn to danger as well as being dangerous. I hope he's further studied in the next book. I'd like to see if he's salvageable or not. I have mixed feelings about that.

The woman that Patch left heaven for he only lusted after and I think he more than proved that he truly loves Nora, he gave up being human by saving her.

He resisted being a guardian angle because he wanted to be human.

As far as Nora's supernatural tendencies, the Iron pills were the big clue because having telepathic conversations could be wholly on the part of the sender and have nothing to do with the receiver at all.

Dabria wants Nora dead so she can have Patch. Speaking of which I liked Becca's take on angels in this book, usually you learn that angels are humans who have died and reached a certain level in heaven to become an angel, but in this book she tells us that angels have never been human.

Dabria is an important character in this story because she comes at the right time to make the audience feel that maybe she is the bad guy, when really she's a scorned ex. And we know what they say about a women scorned, human or otherwise.

I think (I hope) in the next book we take Nora and Patch's relationship even further and we learn more background about both characters.

Jules hates Patch because of the oath he was made to swear to him in the 1500's when he was 16 years old where Patch takes over his body for two weeks out of the year.

I really liked the whole novel and I think that the YA audience will eat it up and it also appeals to the adult audience. I haven't read any of the Twilight books so I have nothing to compare to like some of the readers here. I like the characters and the relationships that Becca creates in this novel.

I think it will be well read and loved and I can't wait for the next book.

Why does Vee defend Elliot and Jules? Why does Elliot help Jules/Chauncey?
Vee defended Eliot and Jules because of telepathic interference from Jules. Eliot helps Jules because he enjoyed the danger and because of money.

How is Patch's relationship with Nora different from the one that got him expelled from Heaven? Why did he resist becoming a guardian angel? The relationship that got him expelled from Heaven was lust pure and simple. You could tell he truly loved Nora. He resisted being a guardian angel because he wanted to be human.
We've had some talk about Nora taking iron as a clue to her own supernatural traces--did any other aspects of the story or Nora give you clues to this? Her "hearing" nonverbal communication with Patch? I honestly didn't think the iron pills had anything to do with her supernatural powers. I thought if she tried she could control people with her mind. I think maybe she was easier to manipulate because of who she was and the fact that she knew nothing of her powers.

What does Dabria want from Nora? What does she want from Patch? Why is she an important character?
We've heard there is another book on it's way to follow this one. Where do you think this relationship between Nora and Patch will go from here? Dabria wants Nora's death and for Patch to be in Heaven with her. She's important because you get some more of Patch's back story because of her.

Why does Jules/Chauncey hate Patch so much? He hates Patch because he's been taken over for 2 weeks every year and he doesn't want it happening again.
I also forgot to say how much I enjoyed this book. I think it will be flying off the shelves. This is going down as one of the best books for me this year. Becca Fitzpatrick has a hit on her hands.

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

Why does Vee defend Elliot and Jules? Why does Elliot help Jules/Chauncey?

Vee defends Elliot and Jules because Jules is putting thoughts in her head to make her think that way. Same for elliot, Jules is just using elliot and putting thoughts in his head to get what he wants.

Why does Jules/Chauncey hate Patch so much?

He hates him so much because of the fact that Patch uses his body for two weeks every year.

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

I have little time right now, but I want to say this:

I read Hush, Hush in one day. I loved the book and for any reason at all could not put it down. It kept me interested at all times, and there was never a dull moment. That is exactly what I look for in a book. I am definitely looking forward to any other books that Becca Fitzpatrick comes to write. I LOVED IT!

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

I guess add me to the list of people that finished the novel in one sitting! This is one of the most amazing books I've read in a long long time, especially from a debut author.

For the longest time I kept wondering why they kept bring up Ms. Greene so much and what role she was going to play in the whole thing. I also found it weird how much a school psychologist was interjecting herself in the romantic relationship of a student, talk about creepy. But after Nora saw Patch's memory, her involvement in the story fell into place for me. Talk about the stalker exgirlfriend. Seriously. She gave me the creeps, but I think she was important to the development of Patch and Nora's relationship. Without her interjections, and attempts on Nora's life, I don't think Patch would have been as honest with Nora as he ended up being. Not to mention, when someone keeps telling you to stay away from someone else, I think almost everyone has the stronger urge to get to know them and find out why they're so dangerous. Does anyone else agree that Ms. Greene/Dabria was important to Patch and Nora's relationship?

I got surprised about Jules being Chauncey! I realized that he was weird but never would guess he was Chauncey. I found connection between Nora and him very creative. Also, I loved Patch's changes. He showed his feelings for Nora, saving her life and accepting to become a guardian angel when he really wanted so badly to become human. I found this very beautiful and touching, and also Vee's apologies for not believing in Nora, about Elliot and Jules.

I loved the novel!! Maybe many other details are going to have an answer on Becca's sequel to Hush, Hush, but I'm already very fond of Patch and his sacrifices to become human and live a complete love story with Nora.

And I loved both endings, but the second one has that sexy irresistible taste that I like :smileyhappy:

Great book, great club! I enjoyed so much participating on this discussion.

I also finished the book in one sitting

I din't like Elliott because he seemed to good to be true almost like Sebastian from City of Glass and I am just suspicious of those kind of guys mainly in books not in real life I think he followed Jules because he is a wimp and can't except being poor so he just hides like a little rabbit who runs and hides at signs of danger. I think he might of been nicce if ha had a little bit of backbone though!

I agree! It was so touching for Patch become a guardian angel when he really wants to be human. I think we can safely say now that he is the "hero" and not the "bad boy". At least not any more.

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

We've had some talk about Nora taking iron as a clue to her own supernatural traces--did any other aspects of the story or Nora give you clues to this?

I missed this in the discussion.  Would someone point out to me what thread this is in?  Thanks so much!

Around Chapter 10 or 11, I started to suspect that Jules was Chauncey, but I thought Elliot was the boy with him back during the 1500s.

Why does Vee defend Elliot and Jules?

Mostly I think that Jules was in Vee's head controlling her thoughts.  But I think that she still had some of her own silly ideas.  She really angered me when Nora was on the phone telling her about how Elliot was drunk and had physically assaulted her.  Vee made excuses for him.  I couldn't believe she was giving him a pass because he was drunk!  I was so mad I was talking to the book!

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

Ugh..I had a really good response typed and then hit cancel and I can't remember what I said!

I too was confused why Ms. Greene/Dabria played such an important role in the novel, but once I understood that she was upset that Nora and Patch were starting a relationship because she wanted Patch back.

Jules/Chauncey hates Patch because of the deal they made long ago where Chauncey has to give up his body to Patch for 2 weeks every year.

I enjoyed this novel - at first, I wasn't sure about it because of all the similarities to Twilight, but I couldn't put it down after I got to the part where Nora was in the car accident.  I finished it in about 2 days.

HarlequinTwilight - I agree that Ms. Greene played an important role in Nora and Patch's relationship.  Nora became more interested in Patch because she wanted to understand why someone would encourage her so strongly to stay away from him.

I thought there was something else, but I've forgotten what it was..

I did that one time with a school paper, I lost 5 pages and when I tried to do it again it just never felt quite right.

For a while with the story I thought Elliot might be Chauncey but when Jules kept disappearing I started being suspicious of him.  Also with Dabria I thought it was suspicious from the beginning that the old counselor just up and left so fast and she took over in the blink of an eye, I wasn't sure who she was but figured it must be going somewhere.

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

Why does Vee defend Elliot and Jules?
Vee defends Elliot and Jules because she does not trust Patch and of telepathic interference from Jules

Why does Elliot help Jules/Chauncey?
I think there was some telepathic interference from Jules also, plus he needs someone to follow.

How is Patch's relationship with Nora different from the one that got him expelled from Heaven? Why did he resist becoming a guardian angel?
It is hard to say.  I believe you can fall in love more than once, especially when you have lived as long as Patch has.  I think he resisted becoming a guardian angel because he does not want to watch Nora grow old and die.

What does Dabria want from Nora? What does she want from Patch?
Dabria wants Nora's death to help get Patch back in heaven with her.  I also think there is some jealousy involved there too.

Why is she an important character?
She helps give a back story to Patch.  Nora sees more into Patch because of Dabria.

We've heard there is another book on it's way to follow this one. Where do you think this relationship between Nora and Patch will go from here?
I do not know, but it will be interesting to see.

Why does Jules/Chauncey hate Patch so much?
He hates Patch because he's does not like to possession.

I loved this book.  I would really like to see the next book.  I hope that the characters are developed more in the next book.  the only bad thing I have to say about this book, is that it could have been longer and spent more time on character development.  I would really love to learn more about Nora and Patch.  I cannot wait for the next book to see where things are going to go!

Wow - it's been facinating reading all of your thoughts on the book - thank you!  It's also been fun to see who guessed the truth about Chauncey/Jules and who didn't :smileyhappy:

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel *Spoiler******

Ok so I didn't think anything at all about Nora having any special powers etc.  I just figured everything was due to Patch!  hmmmm now I'm thinking :smileyhappy:

As for the iron pills - they were the one thing that really seemed out of place to me.  It just seemed like something thrown in.  I see now that it could be a clue to something in the next book.

I LOVE the new ending much better than the one  in the ARC.  No really any longer, but much more satisfying.

I think Patch might have resisted being a guardian angel because he still homed to become human.  And now that he cares about Nora, he may have wanted to be human even more.

Awesome book!  Thanks Becca!

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

I realize that an explanation for Vee's defense of the baddies is given, but I'm not really buying it.  Yeah, Nora experiences the mind alterations, but something about Vee just makes me think she'd defend the boys anyway.  I do think that she went from being into Patch to against him quickly and without a valid reason because of mind control, but for Elliot and Jules I think there's a bit of her insecurity coming into play.  These boys are showing an interest in her, so of course she'll defend them; she wants them to continue to like her.  She's insecure about her weight and desperate to have sex, so it adds up for me.

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

I read this book in one sitting on the plane, while reading i kept hoping the plane ride will be longer than scheduled which i thought was hillarious.

I was also a little surprised that Jules was Chauncey, i never saw it coming it just seemed like he was working for Eliot. I kind of didn't like how Patch's past included him taking over Chauncey's body, it was a little confusing to me, i thought Chauncey was suppose to be all powerful and stuff that Patch had to kill him in order to become human.  I did wish that Becca didn't take soo long to reveal the mysteries in the book.

Over all the book was a great summer read for me I LOVED IT!

Re: Later Chapters and Whole Novel

How is Patch's relationship with Nora different from the one that got him expelled from Heaven? Why did he resist becoming a guardian angel?
Patch was in love with the first girl from the very start. With Nora, he set out with the initial intent of killing her and love was more of an accident.
We've had some talk about Nora taking iron as a clue to her own supernatural traces--did any other aspects of the story or Nora give you clues to this? Her "hearing" nonverbal communication with Patch?
I totally didn't even think about the iron pills. I never guessed that she was supernatural- I thought that was just him, that he could do that to anyone.

What does Dabria want from Nora? What does she want from Patch? Why is she an important character?
Dabria wants patch for herself, and Nora to leave him alone.
We've heard there is another book on it's way to follow this one. Where do you think this relationship between Nora and Patch will go from here?
I'm not really sure. Honestly, I'm not interested in a sequel. This is one of the best books I've ever read, and I felt it ended at the right time, with the right ending (the first- not the new one). I don't know where it could go from here, but I prefer just knowing that they'll finally be together.
It's hard to imagine them in a normal relationship instead of the weird "is-he-stalking-me-or-does-he-love-me" situation.
