[ Edited ]

Describe what Vee is like.

What kind of friend is she? What makes Nora and Vee's friendship work out so well?

How would you describe the similarities (if any) and differences that Vee and Nora have?

What are Vee's feelings about Patch?

Re: Vee

Describe what Vee is like. Vee is an in your face kind of girl. I think she loves being the center of attention.

What kind of friend is she? What makes Nora and Vee's friendship work out so well? I think she is a good friend. Someone Nora can confide in, although I'm not sure Vee see much past herself sometimes.

How would you describe the similarities (if any) and differences that Vee and Nora have? I see Nora and Vee and being two sides of a coin so to speak. They balance each other out. Nora settles Vee down a bit and Vee livens Nora up some.

What are Vee's feelings about Patch? She thinks he cute, etc, but I don't think she likes him much.

Re: Vee

Vee, is kind of hard to describe, while she is a good friend to Nora she also has a tendency to lie or stretch the truth to fit her purpose.  She also hides what she feels her inadequacies are by being outspoken and rude to the people she feels inadequate to. Like the scene in the library on page 45 when Marcie calls her supersize and Vee remarks back to her "hi freakshow" and they both continue on with the banter.

Vee thinks that Patch is cute and is curious about him, but the means she goes to and encourages Nora to go to by stealing his records was bolder than anything I or probably most of any student body would do.

The only similarity I can see between Vee and Nora are the fact that they feel out of sink with the rest of the kids, Vee by her size and Nora by the fact that her father was murdered.

I think that what brings Vee and Nora together as friends are their differences, I think they are totally two different people who feel bonded by their friendship, together they have found someone they can be totally themselves around.

Re: Vee

Describe what Vee is like.  Vee seem very outgoing and outspoken. I doesn't seem like anything will get in her way

What kind of friend is she? What makes Nora and Vee's friendship work out so well? Vee seems like a very good friend. She tries to help Nora out, even though it might not be the help nora wants. They balance each other out, I think that is whey the friendship works out so well.

How would you describe the similarities (if any) and differences that Vee and Nora have? Vee seems total opposite of Nora. But that seems to make them work, I am total opposite of my best friend. I would be Nora and my best friend is Vee. They seem to share the same interest in things but a lot is different like how they dress, the way they talk. Nora is more shy Vee is out spoken...

What are Vee's feelings about Patch? Vee thinks he is cute and that Nora should try it out with him.

Re: Vee

Vee is a good friend, she does have Nora"s back If at times she seems self absorbed, well she is ,it comes with the territory of being a YA.They way Nora described Vee.she doesn't have any idea how beautiful she is inside and out..He boy obsession again is fine,Nora might not share her feelings the way Vee does, but does have those feelings as well..I have not gone past Chapter 9,still I might be surprised if Vee is anything but a good friend.Their friendship as so many strong ,trusting friendships are will last because they do learn from each other, even if its not evident at times..but its early on..Values..they are both Virgins,I think..Vee expresses herself verbally as being much more out,and Nora is contemplating her every thought..Patch and Vees Feelings  about Him...she just wants Nora to have a Boyfriend, and his physical beauty is all she sees and his "Stalking" Nora to Vee is a sign of Patch really being into Nora.,"Weird" is not bad its just different....Its so familiar to me..even though it was soo long ago..I also have a 24 yr old daughter, and thats what pulled me into the Hush,Hush world...She wants it now,but I am pre-ordering her one..I intend to read all of Becca"s books as she is published...A new genre for me and loving it.   V

I like your ideas. The differences between Nora and Vee probably brought them together.

There is a good fit in their friendship.

Vee can get Nora to do things she wouldn't have thought of, like sneak in to see Patch's records.

This is an extreme example, but Nora needs someone to push her a little.

Where Vee needs Nora to bring her down a little.

I think they are the friends I would have had in school.

Re: Vee

Describe what Vee is like.

Good friend, but a little too selfish for my taste.  I had a friend like that in high school.  She was a very important part of my life at that time, but I out grew the selfish friend in college.  I think pretty much every girl in high school has a friend like this.  Great in many ways, but bad in many other ways.

What kind of friend is she? What makes Nora and Vee's friendship work out so well?

Vee is definitely the dominant in their relationship.  I think Nora is okay with that which is why it works out so well for them.  I think it is a good friendship for high school girls.  they have a great trust between each other.  That is very important for high school girls.

What are Vee's feelings about Patch?

I think Nora is too worried about setting her up with Elliot for the double date factor.  She sees Patch as someone getting in the way of that.  I think she also sees his bad boy image and knows that there is something up with him.  I think she is suspicious of Patch and she is picking up that Nora is also.  I think she is truly scared for Nora.

Re: Vee

Vee is an adorable girl besides some annoying qualities of her own like being nosy, outspoken and sometimes rude. I like her way of being and find her more protective than mean. Her relationship with Nora works out well because both has limitations and fears, and there's a mutual identification on that. Nora is afraid to face reality and people (mainly the opposite gender), and Vee claims/demands to be accepted since she suffers prejudice for being oversized. They protect each other and are very different in personality. Vee is more easy-going and Nora totally shy; Vee says what she thinks right way and out loud and Nora thinks twice to express herself. I think that Vee's "empty" attraction for Patch can be disturbing for her friendship with Nora. Vee just wants to have fun and since Patch is a sexy, special and mysterious guy in her eyes, she wants to hang out and show off.

Re: Vee

I love Vee.

She's the total girl next door.

The girl most of us can see an aspect of ourselves in.

Especially us lippy girls.

Re: Vee

Vee is spontaneous and ready for anything. I loved the scene on page 95 when Nora invites Vee to go to Delphic Seaport and Vee is at her house in fifteen minutes. She's all dressed up and has her makeup on. Nora asks, "How do you do it? You had five minutes to get ready." Vee says, "Always prepared. I'm a Boy Scout's dream." I think that sums Vee up perfectly

.

Vee and Nora's friendship works because opposites attract. They balance each other out.  Nora is shy, while Vee speaks her mind. When the girls meet Elliot and Jules, Vee does most of the talking, while Nora was making excuses to leave.

Vee seems very intrigued by Patch. She finds him very cute, which makes me wonder if she wants him for herself.

Vee is a live by the seat of your pants type of girl.  She just wants to have fun.  She seems to be a good friend to Nora but she does tend to think of herself at lot also.

Nora & Vee are two different people all together and that seems to make their friendship work.

The only similarities I see between Nora and Vee is that they both care very deeply for each other.  Nora seems to be very down to earth and wary of new people/situations.  Vee loves to meet everyone and hang out and have fun.

Vee seems to like Patch for his physical looks first but then she is suspicious of him after awhile.

Re: Vee

Describe what Vee is like.

Vee is a very boy-crazy, and as someone else in previous postings has said "in-your-face" kind of girl. She is the spontaneous side of Nora, I think. She is more of a rebel, whereas Nora is reserved and much more on the "straight and narrow." Not to say that Vee is promiscuous or anything, but she's much more laid back than Nora.  Vee is an interesting counterpart for Nora and keeps the story going.

What kind of friend is she? What makes Nora and Vee's friendship work out so well?

Vee and Nora balance each other out, I agree. Vee is crazy and wild, whereas Nora is reserved and on a certain path. They work so well together I think, because they understand each other and accept and embrace the other's differences. It is almost as if the story would be very boring if they did not have each other.

How would you describe the similarities (if any) and differences that Vee and Nora have?

Vee is wild, Nora is tame. Nora is reserved, Vee is rebellious. They are differences and balance each other out almost perfectly.

What are Vee's feelings about Patch?

Vee reacts to Patch in the typical way of a boy-crazy teenage girl. She has no reservations about him the way Nora does. She merely sees him as an interesting, cute boy that she may want to know more about.

Re: Vee

She's the taker and Nora is the giver, that's why it works so well.

How would you describe the similarities (if any) and differences that Vee and Nora have?

They're both naive and care too much about what other people think about them.

What are Vee's feelings about Patch?

I think she might resent him for taking Nora's attentions away from her and her goals (Elliott and Jules), but she isn't sure if he's a good guy or not.

Re: Vee

I have to confess that I do not love her.

I can not trust her. Is complicated. While I read the book, I just want to beat her ass and say "get out here Vee !" . I think a lot of things she says are not important to the plot, .. She can be a free/extra character and really, really not contribute much to the central plot, she just is "the protagonist's friend"

I thing that she supply all the personality that sometimes I miss from nora...

I like when she is inappropriate whit Nora, but I dislike when she made any contribution...

I can not deny that cools the atmosphere.
And I have to confess too that I laught a lot when she say : "Always prepared. I'm a Boy Scout's dream."  And that reflect the spirit of this girl...

Nora is very permissive with Vee, and very motherly.

I thing, I have mixed feelings about her..

my humble opinion...

Sorry for my english and my grammar, I try to do it well ( I am not a native english speaker.. :smileyhappy:  )

Re: Vee

Describe what Vee is like.  Sexy and a little insecure (I think part of her bravado is hiding insecurity, or why else the "colored fruit" diet, etc.?)

What kind of friend is she? What makes Nora and Vee's friendship work out so well?  I think she's a good friend, but can be a little selfish and get hung up on what she wants instead of what Nora wants or asks for.  The two of them work well together because they balance each other out - Vee is the go-getter, the one who makes big crazy plans; while Nora is the analzyer, the one who hangs back and figures out if the plan is any good.

How would you describe the similarities (if any) and differences that Vee and Nora have?  I think the two are both pretty headstrong - Vee in a more out-loud way while Nora is quieter about how stubborn she is.  Their differences are easier to see since they are pretty much opposites in most other ways.

What are Vee's feelings about Patch?  Vee doesn't like Patch, or doesn't want to like Patch, even though she thinks he's gorgeous in a bad-boy way.  She starts off really interested in him and grows to distrust him as the book goes on.

Re: Vee

Vee is fun, outgoing, daring, bold, risqué and irresponsible.  For that, she is a perfect compliment to Nora's good girl "by the book" studious personality. I think they make a great pair of BFF's because they balance each other out and thrive on the other's strong points. Vee needs Nora as a stable ground so she doesn't venture into too dangerous territory and Nora needs Vee to help lighten up and remember she's a kid!  They do both write for the school's ezine which is cool since they have the inquisitive, interrogative mindset, which lends well to the twists and turns in the plot.

The thing they disagree on is Patch. Though Vee is intrigued by him, he's just another hottie that might be a stalker (and an attacker!) so she's warning Nora to steer clear.  However, for best friends, these two do hide some pretty important details from each other...

Re: Vee

Describe what Vee is like.

Vee is loud, outspoken, and an instigator, and I love her for it. I love the fact that she is self confident even though she is described as a little larger that curvy.  I also like that she doesn't take crap from people like Marcie.  Vee says and does things that I wish I had had the courage to do when I was a teenager.  I think she is a loyal friend who really does want the best for Nora.  She just doesn't always go about things the right way or what she thinks is best is not necessarily the best thing.  Sometimes she is a bit self absorbed, but I think that is normal for someone her age.

What kind of friend is she? What makes Nora and Vee's friendship work out so well?

I think that Vee is a good friend.  She and Nora have a connection that goes past just being best friends.  She can be self absorbed, but all in all she is a good friend.  I think that their friendship works well because they balance each other out.  Nora is quiet and a little uptight.  She needs Vee to help her loosen up and vice versa.  I also agree with the previous poster who said that they may also connect because they are both a little on the outside of the in crowd.

How would you describe the similarities (if any) and differences that Vee and Nora have?

I think they are both fiercely loyal to each other and would do anything for each other.  Personality wise they are very different.  Vee has some outlandish ideas of things to do, but if Nora really didn't want to do them then she wouldn't.  I think part of Nora would like to be more like Vee.

What are Vee's feelings about Patch.

I think that Vee has mixed feelings for Patch.  She finds him sexy, but dangerous.  Plus she would like Nora to get together with Elliott so that they can be with the 2 friends together.

Re: Vee

Describe what Vee is like. Vee seems to have a weakness for boys... she overlooks things.

What kind of friend is she? What makes Nora and Vee's friendship work out so well? She is a good friend... I guess.

How would you describe the similarities (if any) and differences that Vee and Nora have? There is none. Nora thinks things through.

What are Vee's feelings about Patch? She thinks Patch is bad.
