Re: About Of Bees and Mist and Erick Setiawan

Like all of you, I can't wait to get started.  I also agree that this sounds like the perfect follow-up the The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane.  What a great way to be introduced to new books and new authors.  Thanks to all of you for the other book recommendations.  I have a huge basket by my bed that just keeps accumulating future books for me to read.  I should be set for the next year, but I know that won't deter me from visiting the book store or ordering on-line after all of the recommendations I have read.  I am definitely a book-aholic!  I guess there are worse things :smileyvery-happy:

Re: About Of Bees and Mist and Erick Setiawan

Thanks JerseyAngel!  I was going to see what I could find on him, but now I don't have to!

I did some searching to try & find some information on the author & this as all I could locate for now:

Born in Jakarta to Chinese parents, Setiawan grew up surrounded by gifted storytellers and became engrossed by the complex system of beliefs, superstitions, and folklore that encompassed both the Chinese and Indonesian cultures. At sixteen he moved to the United States, where he earned a degree in Computer Science at Stanford University. OF BEES AND MIST is rooted in Setiawan’s experiences and is an amalgamation of the cultural influences in his life. Setiawan currently resides in San Francisco, CA.

Thank you BN First Book for choosing what sounds like the perfect summer read. The characters sound absolutely intriguing and fascinating. May have to do a re-read of JS&MN.

Re: About Of Bees and Mist and Erick Setiawan

I understand while sign ups are open everybody is able to receive the books since we participate (or have been participating in previous discussions) and share our readings and views of the book in the forum. As my friend Rosei told me it's not a fair play taking a book if you are not going to read and discuss it. But there's a hard problem about it. When you have any identification to the book your discussion about it is more fluid than if you think the reading too hard and boring. So we should have another chance in a case like this.

I'm really anxious about my yellow envelope. I really liked the purpose of "Of bees and Mist"

I am really excited as well! I love fantastical + fiction where it isn't clear what genre it can properly be attributed to. Reminds me a lot of Central/South American story telling! I also love the description of the book with the "beheading" of the cauliflower, LOL! :smileyhappy:

This book sounds very interesting. It reminds me of the last first look about Deliverance Dane. I love these types of books that take you on a wild journey!

Re: About Of Bees and Mist and Erick Setiawan

ponie, Well I've got my confirmation and received my JS&MN in the mail. In about 3 chapters and already loving it. A little worried because I noticed a couple of reviews saying it was hard to get into but I'm jumping right in. Looking at the size of it and working on this move I don't see ANY way to finish before the discussion on AOBAM starts but I'm gonna give it the ole' college try! Please clue me in on how the audiobook is going........maybe I'll switch venues..........lol Can't WAIT to get started.............feel so lost without a book and postings to provide!

Wow! I'm sure excited about this selection and just ordered Jonathan Strange & Mr Norell from BN so that I might try to get it in before the discussion starts on the new First Look!  Look forward to participating and hope this is even "half" as delicious as the last read......

Discussion of this First Look will begin 6/1, just 1 1/2 weeks after I have moved into my nice little cottage I just purchased that has the "perfect" front porch for summer reading!!! Yippee!!!

Can't wait to start reading everyone's thoughts and ideas!!!

Kudos to you for being able to order a book and wait!!!  As I was looking online at my local library for JS&MN, I saw it was an audiobook and immediately downloaded it.  WhoopWhoop! I will start it today!!  See if that is an option for you...or anyone of you who might want to read it while we do the waiting for little brown truck dance!!

Your cottage porch sounds wonderful.

Tho I love the feel of a real book and its pages I am liking the downloaded audiobook.  Like I've said before I'd need a wagon to cart all 782 pages of JS&MN around!!  I do listen to it differently than I might read it.  To be honest I don't know if I ever would have picked it up to read.  I like the reader's voice and style, hearing the British accents...it all adds to the experience.  And I can multitask; knit and listen!!!!

Can you download it from your library?
