Thanks for asking!

Where do you call home? How long have you been with B&N? What do you like to read? Are you a family man or confirmed bach? Inquiring minds would like to know...:smileyvery-happy:

No matter what you feel comfortable diverging, I appreciate your attention, dedication and patience to/for our group. Your mom would be proud!

Paul,

Thanks for your response, and for trying to quell (some of) :smileytongue:our hysteria by announcing that only very few confirmations have gone out thus far. I can only imagine what a daunting task it must be to filter through all of the requests.  It must be rewarding to know that so many are so enthusiastic though!

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hi all!

I'm Tina, a mom of a happy and energetic two year old.  Right now we live in Western PA and it's my favorite place of the ones we've lived in so far.  Of Bees and Mist is my first FL and I'm excited to get started.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Welcome Tina! I hope you enjoy the first look club. I have done 5 of them now. The first one was rather daunting, trying to keep up with all the posts, there can be sooooo many compared to the other clubs in here (B&N), but don't let it worry you. Just jump in where you find something you want to discuss too. There are some great people here and its a pretty open forum.

Also, if this is your first time in Barnes and Nobles bookclubs, look around at some of the others too while waiting for your book. I personally love the new reads club, where you have the author for a month and sometimes a very small club. Lots of kinds of clubs in here and good discussions. :smileyhappy:

So sorry, I live in Alaska and the weather has been so glorious this past week that I am feeling just a little drunk.  My name is mwinasu and I am kind of old and usually tired  but I feel so good todayI can't stop wallering in my own happiness.  Hope you are all feeling as good as I am.  This is the flip side of cabin fever and it makes every dark winter's night worth surviving.  I am an ecclectic reader, and I enjoy this book club.

This is my seventh First Look Book Club.  The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane was amazing.  I am looking forward to expanding my literary horizons once again.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Daunting indeed, Thayer, but we'll get through all the confirmations by week's end -- I promise!

The enthusiasm is great!

Everyone's patience will be rewarded when they read Setiawan's book!

How are you enjoying listening to Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell? I am reading it also while waiting for confirmation. What do you think about the book?

Well eadieburke, thanks for asking.  It is fun listening to it on cd...the reader is very good with different voices for the different characters and their British accents.  I had also put the book on hold at the library and picked it up today. I'm going to need a wagon to haul it around...all 782 pages of it!!!!:smileyvery-happy:  How are you liking it?

Re: Welcome and Introductions

It's kind of an interesting book. I don't know how you can go on for 782 pages about magicians but somehow she does. It's got a lot of fantasy which gives it some charm.I've gotten to Volumne II which is about Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell's relationship. Vol I is mostly about Mr. Norrell. It seems to be picking up some. I don't like to give up on a book because I think each book has something to give. I'm really a little curious where all of this is going, so I'll just keep on reading and hope that my confirmation comes soon. It's definitely not like Deliverance Dane. It's more about the history of magic and magicians.

How far did you get and what do you think?

Hi all,

Happy to see so many jumping in so early! I'm Rachel and I'll be your moderator for the month. I'll be posting a schedule for our discussion in the near future. We had a great month with our last selection, and I'm really looking forward to this one, too.

If anyone is curious about any of the moderators or admins for B&N, remember that we can all click on each other's profiles to get an idea of reading tastes, and whatever personal information we choose to share. If you haven't created your profile yet, it's fun! It's writing your own reading autobiography!

I'm a mom and a librarian, and moved a couple of years ago to the south. I'm still getting accustomed to the lack of winter. (Since I'm also a knitting addict, this is a problem!) I've worked for B&N for more than four years, and love it, of course.

I'm looking forward to the group!

Okay, I will admit to extreme nosiness.  Just where in the south did you move to? Here in Northwest Georgia we rarely have winter any more!!! We were lucky enough to see a half dozen snow flakes this winter!!

I, for one, loved having you moderate the group for Physick Book and hope I am lucky enough to get to participate in Of Bees and Mist!  Thank you for moderating this sometimes out of control group! You fit right in and work to make the group even more enjoyable!

Thanks Rachel, and in case I don't get another chance to say so, Have a great Mom's day Sunday!!

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hi, Everyone--Hooray! I got my confirmation today and am looking forward to reading and discussing this book with all of you. I'm Joan; I'm retired and live in rural upstate NY with my husband, 3 horses, border collie and barn cat. I taught English for one year, then "retired" to raise my 3 boys. I went back to work after they were grown, but not in teaching, as I would have had to have my MA by then and did not. I "really" retired 5 years ago and am enjoying being able to spend lots of time reading (especially during our long, snowy winters) and riding, my other "grand passion," other than my family, of course! I have been in FL since the beginning and have enjoyed it very much. This new book sounds like another great choice. Joan

Re: Welcome and Introductions

I'm so happy to have stirred some concern for my winterlessness! I'm in North Carolina, and we have a bit of cold, but just not *enough* of it. I have to send my kids out in handknit wool socks well into the 70s and the public schools will close for flurries that never touch the ground! All very foreign to me.

I'm thrilled at active the group is!

And to those worried about response to your registration--remember that it can take several days--and that if we were to run out of copies, there would be immediate notification on the boards.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Got my confirmation today! I was a little worried as I wasn't as active in Deliverance Dane discussion as I would have liked to have been. But I got it, so it's all good.

This is my 3rd First Look, I started with Sag Harbor. So far I have really liked both books. I like the program so much that I talked my mom into joining for Deliverance Dane and she really liked it. She just sent her PM today...

Now the basics: I'm 27, I currently go to school at University of Phoenix Online. I'll be done with my Associates in Bussiness in September and am starting my Bachelor's in Business Administration in October. I'm unemployed, and have been for a while. I have agreat BF who has taken great care of me, and yes I do know how lucky I am... I'm a hobby horder also. I like to read, knit, crochet, play video games, do sudoku puzzles, and whatever else I can find to occupy my time. I recently started blogging for books, It's a great way to feed my reading habit without spending tons of money that could be going to yarn :-)

I can't wait to get this one in my hands, sounds just as good as the last two!

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Greetings from a Newbie!

This is a first for me.  I was shopping on B & N when I started looking at all those strange colorful buttons on the top of the page...LOL! That's when I saw the "Book Club" button.

Well, curiosity got the best of me and here I am.  I never knew so much activity was going on in here.  So, this is where the world's been hiding.

I love books and for me, reading is like being on a wordly adventure without ever having to take a vacation, book a hotel and rent a car.

And I don't have to worry where to leave the head of the household, Charlie the Cat, (I think he'd prefer Charles) whom I adopted a year ago.

At bedtime, we share the same pillow, I even get a furry arm around my neck while I read aloud to him.  I'm sure he undertands it all. Twice now, while reading to him, I believe I saw him smile when he thought I wasn't looking.

I sent my PM for the book, "Of Bees and Mist" so I may begin a whole new activity with others.  Good place to share since I live alone and have no human to have some really deep discussions of what is being read.  So, here's to hoping I'm in and not out.

I don't know how fast they fill up and they no longer have any left to ship, but I'm sure I'll know soon.

So, That's it, something about me to share.

:smileywink:

Well I just got to work and logged in and what do you know I'm IN !!!

So I can't wait to get started and converse with all my old friends and excited to meet some new ones.
