Hi Sandy and all you others commenting about the importance of posting thoughts and comments about books and acknowledging other people's posts if you think it was a particularly good point.  I am embarrassed to say that as many First Looks as I have done, I still can't figure out how to post a "new" comment.  I have only been able to reply to other comments.  I have looked all over the site and read all the instructions and still can't quite figure it out.  Blushing deepest shade of red here!!  Mary

Hello everyone,

What an intriguing title and story outline!  I am looking forward to receiving my copy of The Physick book of Deliverance Dane and digging in!! An avid reader, I have participated in a few First Look sessions in the past and am glad to be back. A busy mom of four girls, Grammy to one (and a third....he/she is due in August) and wife to a shiftworking "Handy" Andy, I also work part time at our local library and do some freelance writing work on the side (not as much as I used to, though, due to some major cutbacks at our newspaper office -- my main contract employer!). Well, gotta get back to baking now and cleaning the house now that Spring Break is all over-- whew!

It's not necessarily you!  Some book clubs don't allow you to start new threads because they want the moderators to keep control of how many threads there are.  So in those clubs, all you CAN do is reply to previous posts.

I just checked, and the Sag Harbor club is that way.  No way to start a new thread.  So is this group.  

In those groups that DO allow new threads, which is most of them, right above the list of threds there's a line of options, the leftmost one of which is New Message.  If you click on that you can start a new thread.  You can practice this in most boards.

But if you try that on the Sag Harbor club or in this First Look club, when you mouse over New Message  option you see a circle with a slash through it, meaning that that option is unavailable.

So no, it's not you; this club is designed that way.  (However, the moderators are usually quite open to starting new threads if they think they will be of general interest.  So if you think there's a topic that deserves its own thread, suggest that to the moderator.)

Mary,

As long as the "new comment" is about the main topic of the thread (such as Chapter 1) then you can start any new idea you want.  Just Reply to the first post of a thread or the last post of a thread, change the message subject, and start your "new idea".

Hi Ponie,

in regards to the spoiling, you're right!  I did that during Sag Harbor but didn't realize it.  Thanks to the watchful eye of those in higher places, my post was edited.  I was glad about that since some folks hadn't gotten that far in the book.  I sure wouldn't want anyone spoiling it for me either.

Hopefully I'll be able to participate in more FL (I'm getting the hang of the lingo-lol) and also get to "know" more of the regulars.  All the Best. Karen.  (i just figured out how to put in a smiley-lol)

Hi, Ponie--Hope this works; it's the first time I've tried the "Quote Post" thing.  I have read Nop's Trials, and I have Nop's Hope, but I haven't gotten to it yet.  As a matter of fact, right now I'm reading Mr. McCaig's Rhett Butler's People.  I've also read his Eminent Dogs, Dangerous Men (about sheepdog trials in Scotland), and An American Homeplace.  I do enjoy his books, as well as those by Jon Katz, another Border Collie lover.  Aren't they just the greatest dogs?  They're so smart--and very loyal, too!

Sorry, everyone, for answering this here instead of in the Community Room thread.  I have no idea how to quote a post from here to over there--if it can be done!

Actually probably my bad...I don't know how to go from one place to the other either or really hard and fast wise what to post where...but as I wait for my ARC I'm learning!!  And I'll take direction and (gentle, please) correction from any one!!!  I am endeavoring to keep up and stay current and am having quite a fun time doing it.  All the back and forth feels like

getting to know each other while we wait for our books.  I already feel more a part of the group than I did with Sag Harbor.  See, now, again, I've probably gone on and on in a place I shouldn't have!  YIKES =)

Hi Judy, I read the Heretic's Daughter for a book review not too lon ago. I thought it was an interesting book with a unique perspctive and well worth readying. For me, the only shortcoming was the ending which I felt was hurried and flat which possibly leaves room for a sequel. What do you think?

Hi everyone.  I'm Jo from AZ (at least for last few years) and I've been doing First Look for maybe half a dozen rounds, so have seen have some really good reads, and a few not so much.   I really enjoyed Sag Harbor.  The author could make me feel and know for myself what he was describing. 

Deliverance Dane sounds like it will provide great fodder for discussion.  All those religious overtones are sure to push some buttons  :-)   I read a ton of historical fiction, especially when I was younger and I love the way a good writer can make an era so much more than dry facts and battle dates.

Let me add a warm welcome to the Newbies, and a big round of applause for B&N for making this book club possible!

Hi Amanda, that very thing happens to me many times and when I see that I usually hit the quote post like I did with your and say "Hey I thought the same thing"

I find that it works to post my thoughts before I read everyone elses.  You may have a different way of saying something that will make someone pause for thought.
