Re: About The Postmistress and Sarah Blake

I just discovered Maisie Dobbs this summer and love her!  I've read the first three books in her series so far.

Re: About The Postmistress and Sarah Blake

Isn't she a wonderfull character?  I am so glad you liked her.  There are several in her series.  I haven't picked up the last one yet.  I was trying to wait for it to come out in paperback.  :smileysurprised:)

Re: About The Postmistress and Sarah Blake

Received my copy just the other day and I started it today - I have a good feeling about this one.  Every now and again a memorable book comes along and I have a feeling this may be one of them!

Re: About The Postmistress and Sarah Blake

I was away on vacation for a few days and my neighbor took in my mail.  I just opened the book  and love the cover.  It makes me want to read the story quickly.

If I were to see the cover in the book store, I would definitely pick the book up to read the promo and buy it.

Re: About The Postmistress and Sarah Blake

I received my copy several days ago and am patiently waiting to start reading until closer to discussion time. After the last First Look pick that I literally could not put down, I dare not start this one until all of my laundry and dusting are done, my recycling and trash taken out, my carpets vacuumed and floors mopped. I am looking forward to the book and the thoughtful discussion that is sure to follow.

Happy to be here,

Kris

Re: About The Postmistress and Sarah Blake

I received my copy last week, and can't wait to start reading. So far I've managed to resist, but I bet that doesn't last for much longer.  I cleaned off my desk today and it's sitting there begging me to start on it.

My copy came friday but the office at my apartment is holding it hostage lol. I can't catch em when they are open. At least it's keeping me from the temptation of reading it all already! Casse

I am a writer. One thing I’ve learned in the course of my career is that what makes a writer is...Writing. Not talking about writing or hanging out with writers, not publicity or promotion or social networking, not even getting published. Writers write. We put into words whatever is true or interesting, titillating or inspiring, entertaining or provoking. That is our job. That defines us. If we get lucky, we get paid. But there is value and dignity in the work, whether we are driven by an inner need or the need for a paycheck, whether we make money at it or not.

I am so happy to hear that so many people have gotten their book. I haven't received mine yet and if I don't oh well, there is always next time. I will look forward to seeing what everyone will have to say about the book. Happy reading everyone. liz

Re: About The Postmistress and Sarah Blake

Barnes and Noble has some wonderful information on Sarah Blake and The Postmistress. Click on the tab which says Meet The Writer for her bio and interview.

Unfortunately, it was hard to find initially when I googled Sarah Blake. Instead of the author, a porn star with the same name takes center stage. Talk about unintended consequences! I perservered and found the right one and the information was worth the effort. This is going to be a great book and a great discussion.

Kathlene,

This is my first experience , as well, and find the Post-it pens bring a fun confetti to the edges of my book club titles. Hope you are finding it to be as pleasurable an experience as as I am.

Enjoy,

Sharon

Sorry I am just now getting to some of these other posts, but I could not agree with you two ladies more! I didn't even have to read the full description when signing up for this book. When I saw WWII I was sold. How amazing that time period must have been to be a part of.  I love reading about the Great Depression and the world wars.

Thanks again. I just read the interview. It certainly shows that The Postmistress has undergone quite a bit of rewriting. Frankie has a different feel to her than she did in the excerpt in the interview.

Thanks TWJ for finding this! I haven't ever seen it--and it's very fun to be shot back in time when the very beginning of the novel was the scene in Grand Central Station between Frankie and her editor Max, what is now Chapter 21.

Re: About The Postmistress and Sarah Blake

Paul, I really enjoyed your review of  "The Postmistress".  I have the book not the ereader and bought it some time ago.  I wish it were an ebook instead of a "book".  I am getting so used to m ebook and thoroughly love it.  I read somewhere that there are updates coming.  Does that mean we with the Nook will get those updates?
