Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hello Everyone.  I am Kathy and live in the Twin Cities in Minnesota.  I am a grandmother of two, mother of two, owner of two pets and rand starting my second year of retirement from being a speech pathologist. Looks like two is my number.

It may be that I am more active in the discussions, but I have been a part of three books with First Look and each discussion is better than the last.  I am definitely looking forward to another stimulating conversation around a book that sounds like it will be a very good read.

Just registered.  Hope I'm lucky.  ~ The selections for this book club are impressive.  My favorite was Deliverance Dane.  A close second was Unbroken Sky.  ~  I just finished Shanghai Girls(good read); I'm reading the Lace Reader(struggling with this one) and the Blue Notebook(intensely into this one).  ~ I'm blissfully retired in beautiful west central WI, have 6 grandchildren who live miles away(not happy about that), and enjoy the warm weather of Alabama in the winter.

I agree with your reading selections.  I have only been a part of a few FL books but I very much liked Deliverance Dane and then read The Lace Reader ( I actually listened to on CD) but also liked it.  Unbroken Sky would have to be my favorite not necesarily because of content but writing style.  I enjoyed Shanghai Girls but like Snow Flower and the Secret Fan better.  The Blue Notebook is on my list to read and requested through the library.  It's nice to run into a reader who has read and enjoyed so many of the same books as I have.

Hi, I'm Judy from South Florida.  I am an avid reader and have participated in First Look for a while now (the last 5 books).   I have loved most of the books and enjoyed the lively discussions.  I look forward to this latest selection.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hi - I'm Julie from Dallas.  This is my fourth First Look.  I think my favorite is THE PHYSICK BOOK OF DELIVERANCE DANE.  I am descended from two witch victims and the author gave my grandmother (nine greats) Susannah Martin a voice in her book.  I have enjoyed all three though and look forward to THE POSTMISTRESS.   I am looking forward to another great read.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

I got my confirmation today.

It took awhile to see the pm, but I finally got signed in. Glad they got the sign in issue fixed.

I think this will be my 5th First Look book.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hi Kathy!  I live in MN too (about an hour south of Mankato).  I think there's usually quite a few of us Minnesotans in the club.
My daughter and I might go to the Renaissance Fair this weekend!  Ever been?

HEY SIS!  (I'm so happy that my sister finally joined up with us!)

When I start reading a book, I keep a notebook--I actually have a specific notebook that I use for all my First Look books--of certain things about the book.  The setting, all the characters, and notes or questions that are important to me and I might want to talk about online.  I'm such a nerd!  But it really helps when I want to go back and look at something or talk about it here.  I try to note the page number as well because it helps me refer back to the place in the book in case I want to read it over, and it helps other readers know where I'm talking about in the book in case they want to read it too.

See ya on the boards!

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hi I'm from Western NC and this is my fifth time participating in the first look club.  I really like this book club because it forces me out of my reading comfort zone and has introduced me to some fantastic authors that I may never have read otherwise.  It has also made me braver in my book selections when I go to B&N to browse and buy!  I am looking forward to this book because I really love historical fiction.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

I'm Sheila from central NJ and this is my second FL book club.  I just finished Under This Unbroken Sky.  Loved the author's style of writing, the story and the excitement & participation in the discussion.  I received my confirmation already and now can't wait to receive the book.  I've done other B&N book clubs and used to participate in BNU (Barnes & Nobel University) a number of years ago.  I love to get lost in a good book!  Looking forward to talking with all of you during the discussion.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Finished Blue Notebook last night.  Awesomely amazing - but so unbelievable.  I know these  situations are real - sadly.  ~ Glad to meet a fellow reader who reads the same as I do.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hi,

I'm new to the club I had read some of the first offerings but had no time to discuss. Summer is coming to a close and I plan to do more of what I love best READ. I am still working but am a partial empty nester. Partial as I have one daughter who comes and goes. I also have a husband and a dog. I'm from Minnesota and look forward to many good discussions.
