Reminiscent of Kent Haruf’s portrayals of hope amidst human heartbreak and Cormac McCarthy’s finely hewn evocations of the American Southwest, Bruce Machart’s striking debut is as well wrought as it is riveting. It compels us to consider the inescapable connections between sons and their mothers, between landscape and family, and between remembrance and redemption.
BRUCE MACHART's fiction has appeared in Zoetrope: All-Story, Glimmer Train, Story, One-Story, and elsewhere, and has been anthologized in Best Stories of the American West. A graduate of the MFA program at Ohio State University, he currently lives and teaches in Houston.

This book sounds really interesting. I probably would never have purposely chosen this book off the shelves for myself, but I am intrigued, especially with the relationships between the father and his sons, and with the son and the mother he never knew.

Everyone that has received their copy sounds fairly excited to have the "hardcopy" in hand.
I keep checking out the front door, here in Manassas, Virginia, for my copy to arrive . . .
I have the sound of the the delivery truck in my head so I know it will be any minute.

I got my book and read the first chapter. I'm lovin it already! I couldn't find the schedule for the discussions. I don't want to read too far before the discussion starts. Does anyone know where to find this?

I received my book today and I am on chapter 4, and I can't wait to start the discussion on this book. So far this book as perked my interest, and now I must slow down my reading so I can be with the group when we start the discussion on September 6. Paul you did it again, and I thank you for this very interesting book.

I want to start reading it too but I'm afraid I will want to keep going, so I'm going to wait and try to keep on schedule. But it sure looks tempting! ![]()
