On the way I have The Cheese and The Worms by Ginzburg which I will likely start this week and I'm also going to read The Help this month (for a irl book club on the 7th of September).

So, there you go - my reading list for the next few weeks.  Supposedly the Harris series books take about 2 days to read at most.

Hi Everyone,

  Wow,  got my confirmation.  That was fast.  Now I will patiently await  the arrival of our new First Look selection. 

  While we have been awaiting the next selection, I have been reading a number of different books, both for relaxation and our community library "Reading Challenge."  Currently, I am reading "Atonement", and "Look Away".  While Atonement is a classic which many know of,  Look Away is a historical look at the Civil War from the Confederate side.  .

Just finished "The Girl Who Played with Fire" by Stieg Larsson. Can't wait until "The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" comes out in paper back. Also the following couple write about an abused women: 

Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö, a couple from Sweden have written ten books that complete their Martin Beck mystery series. The last book in the series, The Terrorists, just came out this week in paperback.

I'm about halfway thru Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See, and am enjoying it very much.  It's really an eye opener about life for a woman in China in the early 1800's.

Hi ESTONE I have read both of these books when they came out. I really did enjoyed them both. But right now I am re-reading "Eat, Pray, Love" again before the movie comes out with Julia Roberts on August 13 Sometime I get on the religion kick too.

And  last week I went to Sacramento Bee's Book Club to hear author Lisa Gardner and get her newest book Live To Tell signed.

Live to Tell (Detective D. D. Warren Series #4)  

I will start this book next.

I've recently just finished

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake  

and

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium Trilogy Series #1)  

I LOVED them both.  Two fo my favorites so far this year.

I am currently struggling my way through Firefly Lane for my in person book club.  I'm hoping to read The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium Trilogy Series #2)  next.

The Passage is great--especially for everyone who's waiting for more vampire fiction that's not about how *sparkly* and *handsome* the vampires are. But even if you don't like vampires, per se, The Passage is doing great work as a post-apocalyptic story, a road story, and a buddy story--so there's a little bit of something for everyone! And it's a nice, big book for the summer, if you still have some vacation time left!

I'm also reading Antiphon for the fantasy/sci-fi sneak peek. I'm really enjoying it so far (but haven't even gotten to page 87, so I haven't commented on [or read!] any of the interesting threads yet). One thing I really appreciate to this point is that even though I read Canticle and Lamentation several months ago, and had obviously forgotten several key plot points, Mr. Scholes does a great job of catching you up to speed without being tedious or pedantic. If you haven't tried this series yet, and if you like fantasy/sci-fi, this series is well worth your time. The first three books are published (Canticle, Lamentation, and then Antiphon later this fall) and there will be two more coming. I'm finding the world beyond intriguing--but perhaps the real strength is the characters, who are vivid and amazing. 

Next on my shelf, besides Antiphon, is Tom Robbins's Villa Incognito. This book was recommended to me by a friend (and I haven't started it yet), so I don't really know what it's about. I'm getting ready to go to the beach (one last hurrah before dissertation writing and teaching start back in force) and I'll take a bunch of books with me--some either for the dissertation or 19th Century American texts I should have read but haven't gotten around to yet (hello, Lamplighter!), and some for fun.

I just finished Secrets of Eden a few weeks ago as well.  Really liked it; did you read his previous book, The Double Bind?  Also a really great read!

Chris Bohjalian is one of my "go to" authors.  I believe I've read all of his books except for Water Witches.  I saw him at a B&N author event in Albany, NY a couple of years ago - was great.  He's very engaging and was very patient answering all kinds of questions.  I loved The Double Bind.  The ending was awesome.
