From cover to cover this book is amazing. You will go on an amazing journey with a family that struggles with showing love and care, but deep down the bonds of family are strong. You will be taken back in time and find the book hard to put down. A masterpiece for all generations!

I admit that I had a hard time from start to finish reading this book which does not mean it isn;t a good book, written beautifully, just not one I would choose to read. I read it because I won it in the FL book club and am very thankful for that!
It has it's redeeming qualities although some pages and incidences being hard for me to read, I liked the way it ended seeming that there was some love and caring in these brothers that were brought up in a very bad way with a father, Vaclav Skala, who had little in him to like.
The story is mainly about Karel Skala and his family and brothers who were used by their father to plow fields with their own selves resulting in disfiguration they would have to live with and it made them hard boys to men.
I admit that the middle section make me want to read on and learn what happens next and what I read was a whole lot easier to read than earlier on in the book.
I am going to give this book 3 stars only because I believe it is a good book, well written like I said earlier, just not one for me. However thanks FL for allowing me to read this book before it come out to the public, I really appreciate thsat!

I am posting mine right now...I gave it a 3 out of 5. Not normally my type of book and the beginning was hard for me to read but the 2nd and 3rd parts got better in my opinion, and it did turn out better than it began for me.

Paul,
I can't seem to post my review. I try to put in a rating, but the page won't accept it, so it will not post the review. Is there a problem with this page?

Done! Once again, thanks for allowing me to be a part of the group. I probably would not have read this book on my own, but am glad for the experience. Looking forward to reading along again! Sandy

That's odd. Haven't had any other reports. Perhaps try again tomorrow. Shoot me a PM if you're still having trouble.

My review is posted on the product page.
Paul, Bruce, friends,
I really appreciate the chance to take part in this discussion. I've been drawn into this one as with few others. I found myself admiring so many things, and yet taking issue with parts of the whole. It was a complicated experience! I am going to be so interested in how the book is received by the critics - favorable, no doubt - and by the book-buying public, who I think in general don't want to work this hard. Hopefully the critical acclaim will encourage them to take the chance!
