How do we piece together the death of Vaclav Skala?
From the earlier chapters where it was mentioned, what did you expect to learn about his death?
Why do we end with Hildi, the wet nurse, feeing baby Karel?
Early on we learned that Vaclav was left to die. He wasn't killed by his sons, but he wasn't helped to escape death either. I didn't know exactly what to expect, but having Vaclav die for abusing his horse, and not in his right frame of mind, seemed very fitting. I didn't blame Karel for leaving him there.
I loved the ending. It is a full circle moment and connects Karel to the twins, providing a bit of irony to the story.
Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.
