I have been reading another book about writers - didn't really realize it when I started it because I checked it out from the library onto my nook. It could not be more different from The Writing Circle both in form, tone and content. Four women who are all different and yet are friends. They are writers who support each other.
I highly recommend it. Something I'm not sure I will be able to do with TWC.
The Accidental Bestseller by Wendy Wax. Check it out!!!

How is the Matterhorn going? I am almost finished with The Red Thread and it is a great little book bringing the characters right into focus.

Violetangel,
Thanks for the recommendation. I just downloaded "The Accidental Bestseller." Wow, this downloading thing is just too easy; I didn't even hesitate.

Sunltcloud,
You're welcome! I hope you like it! I'd checked it out from the library as an ebook, but once payday comes, I plan on purchasing a copy so I can read it again at my leisure.
I definitely agree. The downloading is so easy and addictive. Don't feel like leaving your house? Just shop on nook (or online if you're without a nook) and get a book in your pjs or whatever. ![]()

MSaff and DSaff,
Thank you for the reply. I plan on going to the next Nook at Night. I am not sure if they have more scheduled. Let us know more about the nook book club. I also want to know wha books you will reading for the book club.

The staff found out that we are involved with First Look and how much we enjoy our Nook, that they asked us to start a Nook Club. We are going to lead the first selection starting in July, and hopefully it will grow from there. We will meet following the Nook At Night session and meet once a month.
We are looking forward to it. May I suggest that if your local B&N doesn't have plans for a Nook Club, you may want to suggest it.

Everyone was very excited about their nook. One person had just bought the nook 10 minutes before the meeting started. One couple was expecting the nook in a few days. It was a nice refresher on what I knew, but I learned how to do things quickly and efficiently. I need to spend some time on the WiFi and learn how I can use that.

Hi pen21,
We are going to be starting out with "The Scent of Rain and Lightning". That will be discussed on July 14, and after that we'll have to wait and see. We plan on opening it up for anyone who has a suggestion and our hopes are that everyone will be involved in running a discussion.

Hi Everyone:
I would like to apologize for not being able to participate in this First Look as I had hoped. My dad has been extremely ill and I have been at the hospital day/night. Things are getting better but he's not out of the woods yet. Hopefully I'll have an opportunity to catch up.
We certainly don't plan for these things to happen but I still feel bad about not being able to read/post. Thanks for your understanding.

Barb, I'm so very sorry for your family and I'm so glad that your dad is doing better. He and you will be in my thoughts and prayers. There will always be another first look, catch up if you can.

I really was excited to about joining my first book club - and then life took over.....and I got sidetracked and couldn't participate as much as I wanted...
Unfortunately my family experienced a little tragedy - and all is well - or getting that way now - but things were a little scary and still a little precarious - but it kinda took my focus off of everything else going on...
My future - SIL was a victim of a violent crime - down in SC. A 14 year old boy asked her for a ride while she was getting gas at a local gas station. While she said no at first because of all the reasons you should NOT give a stranger a ride ...then she felt bad for thinking such bad things about a kid...and her mother instincts kicked in and she wanted to help. She gave him a ride. During that ride he turned a gun on her and she turned over her credit cards and PIN numbers and was gonna just give him the car - but he wasn't really satisfied with all of that and wanted to keep her driving while he told her the "other things" he wanted from her.
She realized that if she went to the place he wanted her to go, that it would be the end so she attempted to wreck the car to disorient him and get away...he shot her in the head before she could get out of the car -- but he took off with the car and she was able to walk to someone's house for help. The only thing she was thinking was that the kid had her home address because it was on her license that was still in the car and that my brother and her daughter were home - she was afraid the kid would get to the house and my brother and her daughter were in danger. All she wanted to do was protect them.
The bullet went in the upper part of her ear, hit her skull and lodged in her C1 vertebrate.
Now - miraculously, she is OK. The bullet will stay in her head - as long as her next checkup is showing the bone growing. There was a blood vessel destroyed - but it is the only one in your entire body that has a twin according to the doctors....every step of the way there has been one miracle after another. I keep saying that all the angels and saints were with her that night.
You hear about this kind of thing on the news all the time...and of course you think you're never going to be in that situation. While this didn't happen to me personally - I'm close enough to my future sister-in-law to know what she was feeling - to be scared right along with her when the doctors were discussing her condition...to know that all she could think about that night was her daughter's safety - even though she was the one that had been shot...knowing that one fraction of a centimeter meant life or death or paralysis in that moment......it is scary.....and sad that you can't even feel comfortable helping a child that says they need a hand.
My future SIL had just started a new job (she's a paralegal) and had yet to even get her first paycheck - thus the insurance had not kicked in yet. Her medical bills are already coming in and she will be unable to work for some time....this is a link to a page that the community theater that she performs in set up for her. (http://www.danielledelperciofund.com/Danielle_DelP
While we're so completely relieved she is on the road to recovery - we know it will be a long one. My brother and her are set to be married in November...and if all goes well...she should be out of the neck brace by that time! She's a strong woman - my hero right now - and I know she'll get through this - but it has definitely changed our perspective on many things!

I don't konw if you are referring to a specific fellow clubber, but I read Matterhorn and was amazed with it. Enthralled, and frightened that out boys have to do such things in war. It is well worth reading and I highly recommend it to war enthusiasts as well as "civilians" in the group. Just an amazing book.

I'm sure your support, encouragement and prayers for your SIL helped to move her through her trying crisis. She is truly heroic and I hope her assailant is duly punished for all the terror and suffering he put her and her family through. Reading can wait when real life calls for us to help others. Welcome and prayers to you and yours.

Thank you for your input on Matterhorn. It will be on my reading list. War is just that - war. I think we, as civilians, appear to conveniently forget that when it is not in our country.

krb2g wrote:That sounds like my experience with these books: I started reading them and watching True Blood at the same time (around the end of last summer). I had them on hold at the library, but the lines were so long for each book, that I caved and bought the first two, and after that, all the rest in quick succession. I've had this one on preorder since March, and I'm really hoping that it ships today and comes in by the weekend.
Have you read her other series? After the Sookie books, I like the Harper Connolly ones best, then the Lily Bard stories, then Aurora Teagarden.
Thanks for letting me know about the discussion; I think I had read that on the announcements post and then promptly forgot!
Best,
Katie
I have not read any of her other series, but they're on my wish list! I'm not sure which one I want to begin with, as they all seem very different from the Sookie novels. It always amazes me how authors can pen more than one series of novel at a time -- the only author I currently read who does that is John Sandford. I absolutely love the "Prey" novels. The "Virgil Flowers" spinoffs are growing on me, though.

BethAnnH wrote:I also have several Series I started before my NOOK and have to decide whether to switch to ebooks or not. You would think the decision would be an easy one but for me it has not been so.
I have a similar problem - mine is that I have many books from a particular author (not necessarily series, though there are a few). I've been hemming and hawing as to whether or not I want to get them in ebook or hard copy. It's actually quite easy for me to decide - I'm hooked on ebooks! But the other reason is that I just don't have the space for physical books.
In fact, one of my other dilemmas is whether or not I want to replace any of my paper copies with digital copies. Since I'm not independently wealthy, this choice is easy as well -- hard copies stay unless they're ruined; then I'll decide whether I want to replace it.

Thank you HannibalCat:
Didn't get a chance to get into Matterhorn. Lost my sister to cancer very quickly this summer... Received a book (borrowed) from my dad One Hell of a Ride by Colonel (Ret) William Haponski (a classmate of his) and will read that first as it is borrowed. Matterhorn should be a good second read after that. One Hell of a Ride looks like an amazing life story of a true hero who fought in the Vietnam War.
