Re: The Writing Circle: Early Chapters (through Chris's first chapter)

What effect does switching the perspective from chapter to chapter have on your reading? Which characters did you want to stay with longer?
Is Nancy the "main" character for you? If you feel she is, what do we gain or lose by not sticking only with her perspective to this point in the novel?
Which characters do you take to immediately? Do you dislike anyone immediately?
Whose chapter is most surprising? How would you describe the home lives of each of our characters?

What effect does switching the perspective from chapter to chapter have on your reading? Which characters did you want to stay with longer? It was a little disconcerting at first and I found it took me a while to get interested in the book. I didn't really want to stay with any one character, but I did want to know more about what they have in common and why they're in the circle.

Is Nancy the "main" character for you? If you feel she is, what do we gain or lose by not sticking only with her perspective to this point in the novel? I'm not sure that Nancy is the main character in the novel. I suppose one would think that since hers is the first chapter, but it would appear that there is no "main" character yet.

Which characters do you take to immediately? Do you dislike anyone immediately? I don't particularly care for Gillian's character. I didn't really feel anything for any character until I got to the Chris chapter - his story seemed to make me rethink my first impression of him.

How would you describe the home lives of each of our characters? The home lives of each of the characters seems to be broken - something is wrong with each relationship. I think that each person's escape is going to be the writing club, where they bond with each other over their passion for writing.

Whose chapter is most surprising for you? Each character's chapter hold something a little surprising, but the chapter that I'm most surprised by is Gillian's (I think - it could've been Adam's - it's the one where he goes to the Cape and spends the night).
