Re: Community Room

[ Edited ]

I finished it yesterday and it was so good. I gave it 5 stars. It's about a woman who is kidnapped and her story is told through sessions with her shrink.

Re: Community Room

I just got my confirmation!  Can't wait to begin reading.  So glad to be participating in the Vixen discussion right now, that will give me something else to focus on and maybe I won't be obsessively looking for the big brown truck! :smileywink:

Of course, this looks like such a great read...

Re: Community Room

Hi this will be my first time participating in First Look. So I got a message that said confirmed. I am assuming that now I just wait for the book to arrive. Then what? And another question, which I probably should of asked prior to this point, but is there any cost or fee to participate? :smileyhappy: Looking forward to doing this First Look thing.

Re: Community Room

Hi, tmcb, and welcome to First Look! There is no cost or fee associated with the program. We are asked to read and discuss the book (some of us discuss more than others) and then write a review here on the B&N site. We have a great time in the discussion, so feel free to jump in anywhere. The books usually arrive about a week or so before the discussion starts, and a discussion schedule will be posted for each week. Some of us read with the schedule, some ahead, but everyone tries to avoid posting any spoilers. I hope you enjoy your time here.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Community Room

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to recommend the book I am currently reading, Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin. It is about a mystery that happened years ago and one that is happening now. The characters are so real it seems like you know them. The circumstances so far (I'm about 1/2 way) are kind of sad, we'll see how it all turns out!

This is a book that I can't wait to get home from work and start reading again, and then find it hard to put down. Definitely recommended.

Tmcb,

Welcome to First Look.  I think you will love it!

You're right, after  you get the "Confirmed" message, you just wait for the book to arrive.  Paul, First Look manager extraordinaire, usually posts when the books are sent in the mail.  Also, several people post when their copy arrives and where they live.  The books are sent by UPS 2-Day Mail, although I don't think all the copies are mailed out the same day.

It's a good idea to keep track of News, Schedules, & Upates.  At some point, a more detailed schedule is posted.  When the discussions begin, I think it can be a bit overwhelming to a newbie.  My suggestion would be to start reading the discussion posts within the first day or two to get a sense of the atmosphere.  If you wait too long, the sheer magnitude of the posts can be overwhelming if you haven't done this before.  If you want to respond to someone's post, either to agree/disagree or just comment that their comments were interesting, first click on "Reply To" on the person's post, then click on "Quote" so that their post will be included with your reply.  Most importantly, don't stress!  We are a nice bunch here and non-judgmental.  There are no right or wrong responses, no wrong opinions.  The great thing about this group is you will always learn something about a book from other's insights and points of view.

Sorry if I am rambling a little.  Just trying to pass along some tidbits I learned when I was a

newbie.

I loved "Little Bee", really enjoyed it. I was wondering if you have read anything else by Chris Cleave. I haven't and would appreciate any thoughts you might have about his other bokks. Thanks.

Re: Community Room

Hey Looking for some help from the most avid readers I know!  I am looking for the name of a book - I can NOT remember it for the life of me.  I read this book in the early '90s but it had been out for a while by then...

It was released the same year as "The Stand" by Stephen King...  Was the same concept - end of the world with a few surviors coming together, good vs. evil - but was more like a Nuclear strike rather than a disease...  I remember a character named "sister" and a professional Wrestler that was one of the good guys..  LOL.

If this rings a bell with you can you post the name and or author???  THANKS!!!

Hi Becky, I'm not sure but could it be SM Stirling and his Dies the Fire series. If not I'm not sure, but go to lost books or on the paranormal board and ask the question is no one here knows it.

I think I found your book, Becky, at least I think so. Are you looking for Swan Song by Robert McCammon?

Roslund & Hellstrom website

This site lists more of their books, as well as news about "Three Seconds." I haven't found a FaceBook link, but there is a place to sign up for their newsletter.  :smileyhappy:

Question for Paul

Hi, Paul. I am posting this question here in case others have the same one. Do you think we might get a badge for our blogs with this book? They have been great conversation starters on many blogs and good publicity. We haven't had one for the last few books, so I was wondering. Thanks for all of your work and help!  :smileyhappy:

Re: Community Room

Hey BeckTrek:

if looking for your book title  you may want to wander over to the "lost book" section of the bookclub (B&N virtual bookclub section) and ask your question there.

So many folks check it out and help folks as yourself find the books (title, author, genre) that they can't recall.
