Although I enjoyed reading Of Bees and Mist, I am looking forward to reading a book with a more definitive setting - time, place, mood, etc.

I am one who really did not miss not having  a time or place for the book. I just let my imagination fill in the blanks.

I too find the time period fascinating - especially the Stalin connection.

Re: About Under This Unbroken Sky and Shandi Mitchell

Looks like a very good read.  Being a Canadian (and living in Canada at the moment), I'm excited to see a homespun novel for this group!

Cheers,

I'm really looking forward to this one, too.  It will be a nice departure from the previous two books, and I can hardly wait!

Re: About Under This Unbroken Sky and Shandi Mitchell

While reading of BEES and MIST I was not totally disturbed because there was no time or place to follow, I would be happy to now read a story with a real time frame and a setting that will be understandable.

I do hope that I will have the privilege to review Shandi Mitchell's Under This Unbroken Sky.

Once again, B&N has picked an absolutely delicious sounding book for us First Lookers to read!  I can't wait to dig in! Thank you, Barnes and Noble, Paul, and Shandi Mitchell!

Re: About Under This Unbroken Sky and Shandi Mitchell

Shandi Mitchell is an accomplished filmmaker. I think that writers with experience in screenwriting make great use of imagery, because they are used to expressing their thoughts in visual scenes instead of exposition. Show, don't tell is a must for the screenwriter and promises a lively and direct approach to the themes in "Under this Unbroken Sky." Here are just a few of the websites dealing with Shandi Mitchell's success.

Re: About Under This Unbroken Sky and Shandi Mitchell

FYI. While surfing the net to find info on the Canadian prairies/tundra, I came across the name William Kurelek, a Ukrainian immigrant, painter and author, who returned to the Ukraine shortly before his death to paint his father's village.
