Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hi Kathy -- I have been in other FL's and had trouble keeping up with the post. I have developed a system this time and it seems to be working, so far so good. It is fun to read about everyone in the group and everyone's point of view.

I got my confirmation today...hooray!

Cora

I agree.  Deliverance Dane was the other FL book discussion which I participated in.  I didn't take the time then to read all of the introductions.  I am reading them this time.  I am liking the diversity of this group of readers.  I am also liking getting to know a little about all of you.

I also have pets- a dog and a cat- who are usually curled up beside me as I read.  I have to beautiful adult daughters, one of which is a voracious reader and believes that I am her personal library.  She was here yesterday and took home three books from my stack of to be reads.

I look forward to our discussions.

Kathy

Welcome to the group, Rebecca :smileyhappy: You will find many book addicts here!

Hi all, I am Rebecca from Alabama. I work at Auburn University in Bioenergy and we are very busy right now. I am a book addict and have them everywhere. It would be a shame to waste a minute that I could be reading. Looking forward to reading and discussing.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hi, Sharon. Good to have you in the group. Your post reminded me of a book I just read - Prayers for Sale. Have you read it?

Hi, I can't remember if I introduced myself before or not.  I'm Sharon also known as Quiltgranny everyone online.  I eat, I quilt, I read, I sleep, then repeat as needed!  LOL!  I am an avid reader, and I usually read a book every couple of days or so.  I always reward my day with at least an hour of reading each night before bed, no matter how late that might be.  I've discovered so many places in the world and so many cultures through reading.  I've also made many friends through books alone.  I'm so looking forward to this selection, and the ensuing discussion!

Re: Welcome and Introductions

I'll be interested in how you like The Sister, bookowlie. I enjoyed the book with all of its psychological components.

I received my confirmation today - hip hip hooray!  Thanks Paul!

I took The Sister out of the library yesterday.  It was one of the earlier First Look books.  I want to read the earlier FL's from before I found out about this wonderful club.  The Sister seems a little creepy based on the description, but that's part of what I love about First Look - trying out books you might ordinarily not think of reading.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

I threw my back out big-time this morning (on top of a couple of other bad-luck things).  And I said right out loud, "When is something good going to happen to me?"  I just checked my messages.  You guessed it -- I got my confirmation!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Paul!  I am so happy!

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hooray!  I got my confirmation today, too.  I'm Joan, I live in upstate New York and this will be my 10th. FL book; I've been "here" since the beginning.  I'm retired and live 'way out in the country with my husband, 3 horses, dog and cat.  I spend a lot of time reading; sometimes I feel guilty about that until I get on here and find that there are many like-minded people!  Thanks, Paul--I'm looking forward to the discussion of Under This Unbroken Sky.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Hi, I'm Bonnie from NC and I have participated in most of the First Looks. I have a few ancestors and several friends from Canada, some with Ukrainian ancestors. I love historical fiction and family drama novels, so this should be right up my alley.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Greetings and salutations!  This is my eighth First Look Book Club.  I have enjoyed the First Look experiences so much that I introduced my mom to the book club.  During the Of Bees and Mist discussions, Mom participated more than I did and even earned a few laurels.  I look forward to reading something completely different and earning some laurels.

Re: Welcome and Introductions

Confirmed! Thank you, Paul.

I'll be in Victoria, British Columbia the week before we read "Under This Unbroken Sky," chasing after two other Canadian writers' biographical information. Emily Carr (she was a painter also) and Alice Munro (who, with her husband, established a bookstore that still exists in Victoria.)

Re: Welcome and Introductions

I live in MId-Michigan and this will be book no 5 from First Look.

What is the history of the club?

When did it start?

What were the first books chosen?

I really enjoy reading and also reading the views of other readers. Sometimes another person's perspective can change your attitude toward the book.

Since I live up in the Great White North --, one of the cable TV Channels we get is CBC --Canada--so I hear lots of Canadian news and watch some of their marvelous programming.

Again, glad to be apart of the FL group.
