Re: Previous First Look, YA First Look, and Sneak Peek books

Thanks! I don't know why her website is so difficult. They list the first three on one page and the last two on another. So confusing! I'm only about 50 pages in...is it ok to read them out of order or should I go back to Divine by Mistake?

Elphame's Choice by P.C. Cast is a great book. I have read the entire series and I loved every minute of it. Have you read the novels that are before Elphame's Choice?

This is my first P.C Cast book. I have a few available to me from Overdrive, but I had a hard time figuring out where I needed to start. I'm not very far into it yet, I have a 6 month old daughter and I do most of my reading at bedtime. I don't get very far when I fall asleep five minutes in! I am enjoying it though and think it might be time to make some more reading time in my busy schedule.

There was a time that I would read a book in one sitting or in the course of a day. Now it takes me much longer. I don't know if any of you have felt this way, but I feel like I'm missing a really good friend when I'm not able to read much!

The first novel in the series is called DIvine by Mistake, then Divine by Choice, Divine by Blood, Elphame's Choice, and last but not least Brighid's Quest, The series is amazing especially if your into myths, fantasy, or supernatural genres. Enjoy your book. Oh and I know how it feels to not get enough time to read as much as you usually did. I have a 2 year old daughter and she is a handful. The only time I get to read is at night and during her naptime.

Re: Community Room

I have to chime in on the Nook question...

I bought mine as a pre-release and it arrived in early December.  I've now had it for about 10 months.  I LOVE it!  I loved it from the moment I got it.  I can enjoy carrying all my books with me wherever I go.  Like DSaff said, it fits in my purse.  I can buy a new book on the go.  Plus, I don't feel bad about a tree (sustainable or not, it's still a shame) being felled so I can read a book.  My only complaint is that it doesn't have a backlight, but I have a cover that contains a light (in which I use rechargeable batteries) so I can read at night in bed.  Overall, I'd purchase it again today, at it's original price.  Again, I LOVE it!

Re: Community Room

I received my nook as a gift and it came last January.

I was unsure about a nook versus a real book. I like to collect books, reread, spend lots of time in book stores. But I love the nook. I still buy real books. I base my purchase on price, authors I collect real books. The nook is great for those huge books like the Passage, the nook fits in my purse. The nook is great to read outside, fast to download a book you have to have that minute to continue a series.

Overall, I am really impressed with the nook. I recommend it to everyone.

Re: Community Room

I loved reading all of the member's current reads.  I get a LOT of suggestions off of here.  I would read constantly if I had enough time!  I am currently reading "The War Comes to Plum Street", which is part of my community's "Henry County Reads" sponsored by our local library.  They received a grant to participate, kind of like the "Big Read" that we have done in the past, but this is just on the local level.  The book is about the town we currently reside in during WWII.  Very interesting for us - not sure how it's received outside of our little town, but it was published in 2005, so must be received ok.

Re: Previous First Look, YA First Look, and Sneak Peek books

It would be a little difficult to understand what is going on unless you read from the beginning. In my opinion you should read the first novels first and work your way through them. It makes it easier to understand what is going on and what the characters are talking about. Good luck... Enjoy your reading.

Thanks to everyone who has chimed into my question regarding the Nook!  I think I have a better grasp as to what it means to everyone!  You have certainly opened my eyes to a new concept.  The Nook is something that I think I will investigate and continue to ponder into the future.

I just finished Crescendo as well, and I loved it!!!  I haven't read all of the First Look selections, but I have been involved with many of the discussions.  I always enjoy them and am looking forward to this one.  I read a wide variety of genres (YA and adult).  Here's a few that I just finished.

Also, I have noticed that many of you are using the Nook.  So far, I have not had any desire to purchase one.  I can't imagine not holding that physical book in my hand and turning the pages.  How do you like the Nook and did you like it right away or did it take some time to get used to it?

I used to be completely against an E Reader, then I did the first look on my computer and decided it wasn't too bad. I bought a Nook last June and I have to say, I love it. It didn't take long to get adjusted to at all.

Re: Previous First Look, YA First Look, and Sneak Peek books

I must say, I was not a FL member at the time, but I browsed back through old selections and absolutely LOVED "Before I Fall".  I absolutely could not put it down and recommended it to my 13 yo.  It is an EXCELLENT read!

Re: Community Room

Hi everyone, this is Gail replying to my own message because I want to add to it!  I am reading "The Lucky One" by Nicholas Sparks and I will be reading "Vixen" as soon as I receive it!  But today I found a good book that I want to read next after Vixen.  The name of it is "Huck" and it's about a lost puppy who taught a family and a whole town about hope and happy endings!  I love animal stories so I bought this one today!  But never fear, Vixen is next on my list!

I agree with you, Becky, and think all teenagers should read it.

Re: Previous First Look, YA First Look, and Sneak Peek books

I was on the fence for a long time, since I greatly prefer the written word as opposed to the "e"word, but I review for several publications that send the galleys in eform so I would end up either reading them on my computer screen (Yuck) or printing them (can you say not earth friendly) so I took the plunge and got a nook and I LOVE it too. I still prefer the paper version of a read but the nook gives me so much more latitude with my reading, I can take along a lot more reads when I travel etc and I love the fact that it's so eye friendly when you read from it. So my suggestion go for it.

I love Sandra Brown

Maybe This Time

the last Jennifer Crusie novel I read I didn't really care for so I was putting this one off, but it's great, back to classic Crusie

Bad Blood (Virgil Flowers Series #4)

this is his Virgil Flowers series and I love it too.

It was a great weekend for reading

Re: Previous First Look, YA First Look, and Sneak Peek books

Becktrek- I participated in the Before I Fall FL and had no idea what to expect. By the time i finished i just stared at the last page, wondering how that had just happened. I loved the characters, they are very realistic. I recommend it as well, even if you don't normally read those type of books. I didn't yet really enjoyed it-except I was very bummed and sad by the end by the twist of events in the plot.

Right now I'm about to start reading Perchance to Dream

Re: Community Room

I've just finished Crescendo with the Sneak Peek folks over on Teen Reads. I'm still working on Sanderson's The Way of Kings. I'll be picking up Franzen's Freedom and Garcia and Stohl's Beautiful Darkness soon.

For those of you who liked Kate Morton's The House at Riverton and The Forgotten Garden, she's got a new book The Distant Hours coming out in November.

Re: Community Room

Regarding the nook discussion. I bought one, or better said, I blackmailed my parents to give it  to me as a graduation present. And I love it. Ebooks are much, much cheaper when compared to hardcover (not sure when compared to paperback though). I am a grad student so I travel from uni to my parents house, and carrying my books around is a hassle, not to metion I always forget one. Same goes for buying a book on the go, all you need is internet and a credit card.

Since we are sharing what we are reading. Right now I'm reading:

I am glad you felt the same way at the end that I did - I just sat there for a few minutes, gathering myself, lol.  I recommend this read constantly - wish I'd known about FL when they did it, but I still benefitted from it!  Speaking of FL, I was at B/N in Lafayette this evening and saw that they had "Eternal on the Water" on the Bargin rack for $3.99.  My friend and I were scratching our heads at that one - it was AMAZING!!!
