Here is my review Jillian and please excuse any mistakes, I am not a writer like you, thanks!
Vixen is one of the best books I've read in awhile! It is the first book in a series called "The Flappers"!
It takes place in the roaring 20's during which there were "speakeasy's" because of prohibition being in place. The main characters, Gloria and her intended Sebastian or "Bastian", Lorraine her best friend, and Clara-Gloria's goody-two-shoes cousin who was brought in to help with Gloria and Sebastian's high society wedding. In the meantime, Gloria and Lorraine are curious about the speakeasys and get themselves in one called The Green Mill. They really like it there and eventually Glo "bobs" her hair like the flappers and really tries to be like them which gets her into a lot of trouble. Her family and Bastian do not like it and eventually many things lead to the engagement being in jeopardy and Gloria falls in love with Jerome, the lead of the band that plays at the Green Mill!
A lot happens to them all and it leads to you wanting to read the next book in the series called "Ingenue" which doesn't come out till summer of 2011!
Jillian Larkin has started a very good series here and I am very anxious to get to the next one.
Thanks a lot Jillian!

Thank you so much for the lovely review! And no worries about mistakes--I'm certainly not immune to making typos. Thank goodness my wonderful mother reads through everything I write from college papers to chapters of VIXEN and INGENUE, pointing out my mistakes. I'm sure a few typos have found their way onto this board without Mama's helpful editing.

Jillian,
I just want you to know how much I love this book! I can't wait for the sequel! I have to say it is in my top 10 of the year for books read, and as of the end of November, I have read almost 100 books. Kudos to you! I loved your characters and the storyline. You did a great job bringing the 1920's to life! Thank you thank you thank you!

I posted my review last month. I didn't know the links were supposed to be posted in this thread, because the other First Looks had their own thread.

I kept looking for a thread for reviews too and just happened to click on this thread today and saw that the reviews are mixed in the community room.
I just posted my review here:

I'm a first-timer in the First Look book clubs, so I didn't realize we were supposed to link to our review here. I was also a little behind on writing the review -- I've been pretty sick lately. Stupid flu season. ![]()
Anyway, here is the link to my review:
http://my.barnesandnoble.com/communityportal/revie
I also reviewed the book on my personal blog some time ago:
http://www.livre-du-jour.com/2010/10/vixen-by-jill
I discovered that writing a review gets harder the more time passes since finishing the book. I'd say that is probably one of the biggest disadvantages of the discussion format -- because the book is discussed over such a long time period, I finished the book weeks before the discussion ended!
