Donna,

I am glad you agreed with me and I also agree with you that all teenagers (esp girls) should take the time to read this!!!

Glad to be on another FL with you.

I loved The Passage. I heard that there will be more in a series.

What did you think of The Passage?

Luanne, you know I loved The Passage and you're right there will be 2 more books it's a trilogy. I read an interview by the author and he was asked where the idea came from and he told the interviewer that he and his daughter were going home from somewhere and he asked her what the book should be about and she told him that it should be about an 8 yr old girl who saves the world. And voila!!

Re: Community Room

Also, I have noticed that many of you are using the Nook.  So far, I have not had any desire to purchase one.  I can't imagine not holding that physical book in my hand and turning the pages.  How do you like the Nook and did you like it right away or did it take some time to get used to it?

I love my Nook.  I use it mainly for new books that I am anticipating.  I love not having to rush out to the store and buy a copy.  It's right at my fingertips.  I still read a lot of hard copy books.  Most of my books come from the library (books can get expensive and my husband can't stand me taking up so much space with my books).  I love that the Nook has the Lend Me capability.  And recently I've found that the library can lend out e-books as well.  With the risk of making myself sound like a character from Yo, Gabba Gabba - "Try it, you'll like it!"

Re: Community Room

My husband and I liked our Nook right away. (see my other post about the advantages) The first book we read on it was, "The Scent of Rain and Lightning," which was excellent! Since then, we have been sharing it while reading other books as well. I hope to get a second Nook soon. :smileyhappy:

Shmy; I like how you 'acquired' your NOOK.   Parents always are telling their kids to read & what a better way for you to say I want to read, now just get me a NOOK and I will be even more scholarly . . . . lol

Looking forward to dialog on the FL: Vixen novel

Dstaff:  I too am in the same situation with one NOOK & two readers.  Yet, I am not sure I want to buy 2 nooks for the family; maybe if we were not together so often maybe, but since my husband retired in February and I work shift work & can read when he isn't using it I don't see a need.

What basis are you wanting to buy a second NOOK for?  Are you on the go & like to read when your hubby isn't using the NOOK?

I love ours and if it wasn't for school (college course) right now I probably would use it more often since I am not a TV watcher at all.

thanks for the input on your NOOK, it helps me better use ours too!

DSaff,

I love my husband dearly, but I will not share my nook with him :smileytongue:  I guess I'm a little OCD about my books and nook, but I love it so much, I don't want to let it out of my sight!  I couldn't give it up long enough for him to read a book.  I applaud you for your sharing nature, but I intend to keep being selfish with my nook.

I think my biggest reason for getting a second Nook is so that my husband will more actively look for books he likes. He loves reading on it, but I think he thinks the books we have are ones I will enjoy. But, he has found some hidden gems lately. I left the Nook with him last week and told him to look through it to see if there was anything he would like. Eureka! He found the books I got for him. <grin> We share well. I just want to be sure he feels comfortable getting books for himself too.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Community Room

In response to the Nook questions..

I love mine. I wanted one for a while and was planning to buy one for myself as soon as my wedding craziness was over. The night before my wedding I went home and there was one sitting on my bed with a note from my soon-to-be husband. My friend and I got up the next morning (my wedding day) and drove to barnes and noble so i could get a cover for it so I wouldn't worry about taking it places and it getting scratched up. I do not share it with my husband and have not let it out of my sight since I got it. I had no trouble adjusting to reading on it. The screen is very readable and easy to see. It's easy to navigate through. And you can have hundreds of books without them taking up space. You can read any book you want at any time without having to go home to pick it up, or without having to buy it.

Yeah. I'm a walking commercial. :smileyhappy:

I just got my confirmation for this first look and I'm excited. Can't wait to discuss it with you all.

I would give a list of my other current reads but now I'm running late for work. Whoops.

Hi Pumpernickel, did you want the entire book club October schedule, if so you can find some of them on the Community Room board or on the Announcements Board, but not all book clubs post their selections there so my suggestion would be go to the individual club and see if anything pops out at you, for example October in the General Fiction book club we're featuring a seasonal read I'll post  the link to the book club, you will find many threads dedicated to our October read

Daughters of the Witching Hill

Re: Community Room

Hey fellow readers and First Lookers,

Hope no one minds me posting something really off topic, but I just set two traps to try to catch the mamma kitty and her six kittens that are living in my mom's woodpile, so any good thoughts you have for me are appreciated.  We want to catch them so we can get them their shots and get them fixed so they can live happily ever after.  Hopefully, we will be able to make them like people so they can go to good homes, if not, they are all mine :-).

Re: Community Room

I know a lot of people like the NOOK, but I feel that I'm always going to be a hardcover's-the-way-to-go kind of person. At least I don't have to worry about a hardcover dying or breaking on me, haha. I don't know, maybe I'll change my mind someday, but for now I'm all for keeping the printed book spirit alive.

And Tarri, good luck catching those kitties. Makes me wish my dorm allowed us to have cats instead of just small fish. I'm sorry, but you can't snuggle with a fish on a cold night or when you're in bed sick PSU.

Re: Community Room

Hey ya'll! I'm looking for some new books to read. I've just bought Daughters of the Witching Hill for my nook, so I'm hoping that I like it. But other than that, I've mostly been reading a lot of young adult fiction. Nothing wrong with that, but I want to branch out a little, read more than just one genre, so to say. Um, I like science fiction. I am currently re-reading the Anita Blake series. I've read all of Tamora Pierce and Terry Brooks. Most of Jane Lindskold. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've recently discovered that I like historical fiction too. I've read The Mistress of the Art of Death series.

Thanks!

Re: Community Room

Hi KiwiMerrill,

I too adore historical fiction and the Mistress of the Art of Death series is wonderful.

I would recommend that you give Alison Weir's novels a try.  She is a well respected historical biographer and in the past several years has put out a few historical novels.  I'll post links to them below.  Her books are impeccably researched and very readable.  I really adore her books.  I also am finishing up Roanoke by Margaret Lawrence right now.  It is an Elizabethan mystery focusing on the lost colony of Roanoke.  It was a little different, but I enjoyed it.  Hope you find something that you enjoy.
