Pigging out and staying fit. What’s your style?

I love food.

And I grew up in a family that has a huge appetite. And it has become a need to always have rice and viand all the time.

Any tips?
What’s your personal diet technique?

Some people does a crash diet, and I just cant do that to myself
Some go to the gym so they can eat more..

I just think fitness means eating like a normal person.

Just tell me what you think…:smileysurprised:

The experts say "no" to dieting. Just eat what you like, but make it smaller portions than what you have eaten. When you are full, quit eating. Eat three meals a day and if you are hungry at bedtime, eat a light snack. Fruit or cheese and crackers are my snack. And exercise is necessary to keep weight off. Walking is always the best, that is, if you do it four or five times a week. And every so often splurge with a king size helping of your favorite. Say once a month. That is my way and drink lots of water or green tea without sugar and cut whey down on the sodas. Diet or otherwise.

Re: Pigging out and staying fit. What’s your style?

A good Samaritan.
Here’s what I know about dieting.
Crash diet’s major no-no.
Yes, work out, eat just the right amount of food.

Here’s another one that works, at least for me (sometimes because I love food)
Take the timek to actually chew your food, put the fork down after every bite, once you swallow, drink water.
Don’t load your plate with the food you think you can chow down.
Get just a small amt, just add more into the plate, if you’re stil hungry. When you’re full –stop.
I have a bit of an addiction for sweet drinks, like soda. Oh I love coke. Now ive replaced my addicted to this delicious beverage, coffee.

I try to work out at least thrice a week .
But I usually end up doing it once.
I still stick to my diet, I don’t have a rock hard, ramp model bod, but hey, im fit,

I do tell my friends to stop obsessing about becoming slim, thin, buff, ,…
Anymore thoughts on todays body image issues and diet techniques?

What works for me:

Six smallish meals a day, to let the body digest better - bigger meals make it much harder for the body.  Only one biggish, hot meal a day, for me usually lunch, but if I know we're going out in the evening I eat lighter at lunch.  Breakfast and dinner are medium sized - a sandwich, or an egg, with salad.   And for the other three (or four) small meals:  a yoghurt with granola or other grains, or crackers/slice of bread with cheese and some veggies, or some fruit and almonds/walnuts, or a whole grain energy bar, or some popcorn, etc.  Lots and lots of water.  A glass of water before a meal cuts the appetite down as well.   I allow myself a diet soda sometimes, but no more than once a day.

I try to have a "meal" every 2.5-3.5 hours.  The great thing about this is I never have the need to munch, which used to be one of my biggest problems, because I know I'll be eating again soon enough.  Plus, I don't overeat because I don't wait a long time and get really hungry.  Friends laugh at me, that I eat on a schedule like a baby, but hey, it works.  :smileyvery-happy:

I should exercise more than I do.   :smileysad:   I walk a couple of time a week, and that's just not enough.  Note to myself:  do better with that.

One of my biggest struggles is not to read or watch tv while eating.   When you're not focused on the food, you tend to not notice how much or how fast you're eating, so you eat lots more.   I just love to sit with a book while I eat!

Re: Pigging out and staying fit. What’s your style?

Chana ! you sound like my cousin! Sheesh! :smileytongue:

He’s such a bookworm. He reads while eating, talking, even when he’s in the bathroom. Urk! Anyway yes I agree with your routine, smaller meals are better that 3 big ones.

My cousin cannot be distracted,. For example he’s reading, and you ask him a question while he’s reading (while eating)

Me: hey did you see my mom?

Cuz: (stares at his book, slowly shoveling mounds of food into his mouth) 5 seconds.. ten seconds pass….  He turns his head to me, his eyes still on the book, and finally decides it must be rude and irritating what he’s doing to me.  And finally gets around to asking (now would you believe this?) : sorry , were you asking me something?

Plus: doing something else(except talking)  while eating makes us not enjoy the food so much. We don’t appreciate the taste , plus we tend to eat more.

I have a new diet trick. I only eat one meal with rice on it once a day. No softdrinks.

Re: Pigging out and staying fit. What’s your style?

Hey, there are just so many hours in a day, what with working and family and housework (pfui) and and and.....

So if I double up on some things, like knitting while riding to work, or reading while eating,  it's totally understandable.  After all, I can't really do my reading while vacuuming, right?

You sound exactly like my dietician. She keeps saying that it's important to eat every three hours so that the metabolism doesn't slow down.

LOL.....yep, those were originally the instructions from my dietician ... and I can't complain, after I gained a great deal of weight after menopause, it started to affect my health, and changing my eating habits has helped me lose a lot and feel a whole lot better.

That's interesting. I'm in menopause too. So it worked foryou? i find that eating makes me hungry. If I don't eat I don't want to as much. Staying away from flour and sugar helps too.

Re: Pigging out and staying fit. What’s your style?

During menopause itself everything was a little wacky.  When I went running to my doctor about the weight, even he told me to wait until the hormones stabilize.  I waited a wee bit too long, methinks.....about 10 years.  :smileyvery-happy:   Ahem...better late than never.

So far, over the past 5 months, I've lost about 35 pounds.  I've got another 20 to go.  I find that if I drink alot with my meals (water, for the most part), it fills me up quite nicely and I don't want more.  As far as flour and sugar, I try to stay with whole grains (and "light" bread), and nothing with added sugar.

We seem to be in synch. I've lost 46 pounds in the last 6 months. Menopause is quite a ride alright!

BTW, I notice we're both up in the wee hours... another menopausal symptom? :smileywink:

Well, I do tend to stay up late, but then I always have.   Thank goodness I can get along with less sleep now than when I was younger.

As far as posting, though, for me it's usually midday when I'm around, not so much the wee hours - different time zones mean there are generally very few people online when I am.   :smileytongue:

Actually, what you're doing is kind of rude. I hate when people think they can just start a conversation with me when I'm clearly reading. (People do the same thing when i have headphones on too! Why must you talk to me!!! Grr.)
