What are your favorite plants for fall and winter interest?

Here are a few of mine:

 

 

Fall-blooming Boltonia asteroides

 

 

Sweet Autumn Clematis

 

 

Amur maple (Acer ginnala)

 

 

'Cardinal' Redosier dogwood

 

 

Winterberry (Ilex verticillata)

I too like the dogwoods and the acers palmatum and dissectum.  One of my own garden favourites is Cotinus coggria 'Royal Purple, the smoke bush, which is purple throughout the main growing season but which turns red in the autumn, showing off its smoke like flowers.

 

My favourite winter plant is evergreen Mahonia 'Charity' which is putting out its bright yellow flowers in my garden right now and will be doing so until March. Birds love its black berries and spiders make fantastic cobwebs amongst its spiky leaves.
