Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Harry Potter Conventions

Well, I am following Connie's directions and hope that this works as the beginning of a thread, all about the wonderful world of Harry Potter conventions. Some of you may already have attended one, as there have been a number of them in the past five years. I attended Azkatraz, which was held in San Francisco, last July of 2009. Usually besides seminars on topics connected to Harry Potter, the conventions offer extra incentives for HP fans to attend. For example, they may offer a premiere of a Harry Potter film at an IMAX theatre, live music by Wizard Wrock bands, and usually a special guest or two.

Chris Rankin was in attendance at Azkatraz, and I got to get my picture taken with him! Hooray!

( He is the actor who plays Percy Weasley in the films.  I believe Matt Lewis/Neville is supposed to be at Infinitus, but don't quote me on that--not sure if that's been offically stated).

Opening night, the big event was a Wizard Wrock festival on a ship traveling around Alcatraz island. I chose to go to the Mixer instead, as I was not really familar with any of the bands that were listed, and the thought of being on a boat where alcoholic beverages were being served, at night, with loud music playing, did not appeal to me.( Let's just say I had visions of losing my balance and falling into the bay, with no one to hear my cries for help, and leave it at that).

Also, the ticket for the event was extra from the regular convention cost, and was $100.00. That was just a bit more money than I wanted to spend.

Anyway, I hope this is enough to get the ball rolling on this topic, and if anyone has questions about HP conventions, I'll try to answer them as best as I can.

Yes, I did it, which is rather a surprise to me, seeing as how I am usually rather technologically challenged. I am going to see if I can get a link to the Infinitus site in here. (*Exits muttering something that sounds like"when pigs fly..." *)

That worked, too!  You're on a roll now, Fricka!  Ha.  Thanks for giving the club the info.
