We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Most Annoying character

Can you guys think of, in your opinion, the most annoying character in the Harry Potter series? I know mine but I want to hear from you.

Re: Most Annoying character

I was not too keen on Mundungus Fletcher. I was very happy when Kreacher hit him with the frying pan and tried to go after him again.

Re: Most Annoying character

I loved that scene in DH with Kreacher and Mundungus! "Just one more for luck, Master Harry?" That scene still makes me laugh :smileyhappy:

But I agree with Kreacherteacher - Mundungus wasn't my favorite character in the series. In GOF and the early chaptes of HBP I wasn't too keen on Fleur, but towards the end she started to grow on me. There's not really one particular character that when I'm reading I think "Ugh, why did Rowling put this character in the book ??" I pretty much like all the characters, but sometimes they bug me. For example, in OOTP Cho kind of bugged me, especially the scene in Madame Puddifoot's tea shop and when she was defending Marietta when she told Umbridge about the DA. But that's just my two cents :smileyhappy:

Re: Most Annoying character

Peeves was the most annoying character, but I loved him!

Second place goes to Mrs. Norris, the cat.

I'm definately gonna go with LOCKHARDT!

Then Snape, then Filch.

Definately Filch.  I would say Lockhart, but he is just so entertaining.

Oh DEFINITELY Mundungus! Everyone else I thought of I would put under the annoying but still good category.

Hmm I have a bunch. Here's mine...

1. Umbridge- cannot stand the woman.

2. Bellatrix.

3. Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia.

4. Percy (later when he's acting like a toad.)

5. the Malfoy parents.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about her. Though Mundungus is still top choice for annoying, she is a close 2nd.

I'm sorry but I just never liked Fleur Delacour or the Patil twins. They just didn't seem very interesting.

Re: Most Annoying character

How can people not like Snape and Bellatrix?!? I know Bellatrix is evil, but I love to hate her. I think she's an interesting character along with Snape. And Umbridge is another one that you just love to hate. Filch, I can see why people don't like, but I think Lockhart is just too funny to be annoying. How can you not laugh at his narcissism?

Re: Most Annoying character

Colin Creevey was a candidate for this spot, but he was just an innocent pest and died for Hogwarts.

The winner, in my book anyway:  Cormac McLaggin

Welcome, Doomdude1234!  I agree that's she's more than annoying--she's one downright nasty 'dudette!'  Ha.

Re: Most Annoying character

They chose a much too handsome actor to play Cormac. I was actually feeling sorry for him. Don't get me wrong, I would never have wanted him to get with Hermione, but he was adorable. I wanted him to find happiness.

Re: Most Annoying character

I have to go with Umbridge. It was sooo hard for me to get through OOTP because of her. I had to keep putting the book down because I was so angry I could have hurt someone.

And I agree  Kreatcherteacher, Cormac was really cute in the movie. I wasn't expecting that but I definitely wasn't hating it!

Re: Most Annoying character

You know, rereading my post, I think I should clarify something. I want people who aren't so attractive to find happiness too.

Umbridge made me angry as well. Rowling can really characterize.

That brings up a question: In what ways is Rowling most fantastic when it comes to literary elements? (plot, characters, conflict, resolution, theme, setting)

I am having a hard time answering that right now so I think I will mull it over a while.

Re: Most Annoying character

I'd give her a prize for her ability to name characters.  I can't remember a single other book by another author in which so many of the characters' names were as memorable.  Most authors come up with one or two memorable character names, but JKR came up with hundreds.  It is truly a gift.
