Questions left unanswered?

I too feel like there where so many things left unanswered. But i heard in an interview that JK Rowlind did, right after the book was released, that she was planning on releasing an encyclopedia, sort of telling us the stuff that she wasnt able to include in the book and hopefully answering the questions that we all have. But she said she would taker her time to write it, so dont know when it it will be released, but we can probably look foward to it.

I just thought of one today. I apologize if someone has already mentioned this before!

Why, exactly, was Peter Pettigrew sorted into Gryffindor as a child? Was he once a better, more courageous person, or is the Sorting Hat simply flawed when it comes to correctly sorting some people? (The latter seems possible, considering that Harry almost got sorted into Slytherin just because of his Horcrux.) Or perhaps there really is no reason for him being sorted into that House, other than to give the writer a convenient means to make sure that he had close enough contact with James and company in order to become their friend?

I do not believe it was because of the Horcrux. Harry had been alone and unloved since he was orphaned. He most certainly probably found the idea of power alluring, since he was so powerless in the Dursley household. SO yes, he probably would have done well as a Slytherin, but chose something else.

That's actually a good point, ShadowCougar. It just always seemed so mysterious to me that the Sorting Hat thought that Harry would do well in Slytherin, so when I found out that Harry had Voldemort's Horcrux inside him I jumped to the conclusion that it was because of the Horcrux all along. But you're right; it could very well be that Harry simply had Slytherin-like tendencies.

And ABI, I admit, I'm not entirely sure that Wormtail was in Gryffindor, but I thought that I heard it confirmed somewhere. Anyone know whether he really was or not?

I think either in book 7 or in a later interview after it was released that Rowling did say that Pettigrew was in Gryffindor. But as Dumbledore told Snape 'I think sometimes we sort too soon'.

After reading the text, I know I have my theories, but I would like to know definitively.

My personal guesses?

1) His father
2) Lily's corpse

And Merope's dying is so the opposite of the "good" mothers in the series, like Harry's, who did the opposite. Mother-love is an important theme, I think.

In the battle of Hogwarts, where were Professors Vector and Sinistra, and Madam Pince? I don't remember seeing any reference to them either taking part in the battle or leaving the castle with the Slytherins and underage students.

Also, what ever became of Amos Diggory? I would have thought he would be right in there fighting Voldemort after Cedric's death.

I was thinking these same thoughts the other night. I thought for sure we'd see Amos in there somewhere and at least Pince. Maybe she was up in the library defending the books against attack the whole time ; )

Oh that would have been great. Chomping monster books running across the lawn at Hogwarts chewing on ankles lol. We really didn't see much of either of those 2 in the books so I didn't find it odd that they weren't in book 7. Maybe they got married and went off reading the fortunes of the stars : )

Oh, exactly! I hadn't even thought of it that way, but Harry and Tom were almost exact opposites in that sense: Harry's mother loved him so much that she died protecting him.; Tom's mother, on the other hand, did not have the love in her heart to survive, even for her son. She died in spite of Voldemort, and left him without protection.

That made all the difference, I think-Harry cherished love because of his mother's sacrifice, and on the same coin, Tom was repulsed by it for the opposite reason.

Additionally, I'd like to ask why one of Harry's kids weren't named after Sirius?

I would like to know where house elves come from - do they mate? Do they have husband and wife unions - where are the children - how do they become attached to a family or family house.... are they a dying species given that the pure blood lines are getting intertwined with non-magical blood lines? This has been in my mind for a bit.

Hmm... I did not get the impression that she had been raped. Her brother just said that the boys "got carried away"... I also had the impression that these were young boys and she was a young girl. I have a difficult time putting together "carried away" with rape in this context... it certainly wasn't a date!

I don't know what JKR had in mind as far as that torture went, she was just so outnumbered that anything that they might have done to her (e.g. pulled her hair, burned her, twisted her arm, etc.) that she was scared out of her wits that they would come back and do it again if she ever used magic again...

JKR didnt really revel on the reason, or at least gave us more information on why VOLDEMORT became the way he is. i mean , i have my ideas, that JKR ,meant to say that even though he and harry had similar family backgrounds, and childhood experiences, it was still the choices you made that mattered .. so VOLDEMORT chose to be bad... is that it?

You know - there is always the nurture vs. nature theory on human (wizard??) development. Regarding 'nurture'- good quality familial nurturing was not something Tom Riddle benefitted from, and his mother gave him up. He was different so was probably not treated well in his orphanage homes. Regarding 'natutre' If you remember back to Marvolo Gaunt - the men in that family seem to have a particularly evil bend to them. Also - the Gaunts were into pureblood breeding to the point of marrying close cousins - in which physical and mental development can be horribly malformed. Tom had it all going for him in the wrong direction - no 'good' nurturing and plenty of reasons for his 'nature' to be off kilter too.

You remember that Voldy summoned it from Hogwarts and set it on fire atop Neville's head? Then, Neville got the sword the same way Harry did in the Chamber of Secrets--he was a true Gryffindor in need of it!

A true griffendore can draw the sword from the hat when in need, it is part of the magic of the hat and the sword. Neville needed it, (Much like Harry in CoS) and it was there, probably vanished from greedy old griphook's hands.
