Not long from now, all seven HP movies will be available. What does that mean for the books? Will most children first meet Harry through a movie? Will the books become secondary, something for the serious fans?

The HP books are going to go down as classics. They will join the very rare company of the Lord of the Rings series and the Narnia books. I really think that the books and movies will be taken together, much like Lord of the Rings are now.

I wish that they had gotten Christopher Lee to play Dumbledore from the beginning. But he's so thoroughly typecast as a villian that he might not have wanted it, aside from never wanting to wear another wizard's beard or any concerns he might have about witchcraft in the story. Who would be the right person to play Dumbledore in 2019, I wonder?
... and then you just have to play algebra ...

Let's go a little further, perhaps to 2019 or 2020. Can we hope that someone with a clearer vision of the story will be given the chance to make a new set of movies? Perhaps even allowing two parts for the longer stories?

Later on somebody will remake the movies, plus I hear an amusment park is in the works.
The Magic of the Harry Potter series will never die, as long as the books are on our shelves and the characters stay in our hearts.

If we're talking 2019/20 or after, I think it depends on word of mouth. Passing that love of the story from one person to the next. I think if they did it as a Series, it would be wonderful. They would have the freedom to use more Plot bunnies, and people who couldn't wait to see what happens would pick up the books... I would hope.
It'll still be popular... and by the time they really do decide to start remaking the movies... just embrace it like you did this time, with all your heart.

There's so much in Harry Potter that you could let the story play out over an entire season.

I dont think that there is going to be a television series because tevelevision is all about suspense and since people already seen the movies there wont be much profit about it.

To truly understand HP you have to read the books, there is deeper meaning in them, about life and stuff, and in the movies it is just action mainly.

No doubt the movies will send people to the books, and the books will be given as gifts for years and years. Will a lot of kids will read the later ones, at several hundred pages each, when there's a 2-hour film for them? That's not as obvious to me.
I love the earlier post about remakes. Thinking about that already?! You're right, it'll happen.
What about spin-offs? We've been spared the cartoons, thanks no doubt to JKR. Can she hold back any longer? Is there reason for her to do so, after her original version is available for everyone?

That would be horrible. My biggest worry is that the books will become part of the "old fogey" classic section, in children's minds. What if they decide not to read them because they feel it's just another book being shoved down their throats by teachers and parents alike?
