Was Someone else there

I have some questions and looking through all the treads I didn't find anything on this topic. If this has already been discussed and I missed it I am sorry.

1st...The Night LV went to GH to get Harry, his intention was to kill the whole Potter family. Well he did kill the parents and was destroyed him self which left the baby by himself. My 1st question is how did everyone know so quickly that LV was gone, Harry couldn't have told anybody. Was there someone else there that night?
I think there was, but who?

2nd...The House that the Potters had at GH was it theirs or were they staying at a friends in hiding? The reason for this question is because on another HP site that has a discussion board they were talking about this and I don't remember reading it anywhere.
The forum was saying it was Hagrids house that the Potters were staying in and that is why he was sent to go get Harry because he knew where the house was. Because wasn't it under magical protection.
