If you’re a romance novel fangirl like me, there’s probably no cooler place to be than the yearly Romance Writers of America national conference, this year in Washington, D.C.  As I write this from the heart of “RWA National,” the lobby of the Wardman Park Tower, if I look left, right, or over my shoulder, it’s just not possible to avoid seeing a squee-worthy romance author!

Of course, being a classy broad like me, you’d totally play it off, like I did in this photo when BN.com blogger/moderator Becke Davis (right) and I sort of, well, accosted superstar author Suz Brockmann (center).  Suz* is here at “National” promoting her August release, "Hot Pursuit," and holding important meetings – but none more important than meeting her reader fans who’ll show up tonight along w/ tons of other romance lovers for the massive 500-author-strong “RWA Readers for Life” literacy book signing.  The annual events have raised more than $600K for literacy charities since 1991.  I’ll take you to the signing later today.

What else goes on at National besides brushes with greatness, hooking up w/friends and colleagues old and new – and awesome parties?  Well, yet-to-be-pubbed authors (YTBPs) get chances of a lifetime: The hottest editors and agents in the romance biz give generously of their time and expertise to meet YTBPs and hear them “pitch” the books they’ve written, or would like to write. For so many of our fave romance writers, it all began at RWA National.

Wonder whose dream will come true this year?

Which of your favorite romance authors would you most like to meet if you were going to tonight’s Literacy signing?

*I’ll bring you Suz Newz Thrusday nite! BTW, Suz appears at BN.com Center Stage in August…

This was a dream come true for me -- I love Suzanne's books and I have great respect and affection for her as an author and a person. To get to meet her and visit with her was not only a highlight of National, but something I will never forget!
