Somewhere between "Pride and Prejudice " and the rise of bands of vampire brotherhoods, we romance readers became a bloodthirsty lot of chicas.
That's why the idea of being taken vigorously on the floor of a fetid Turkish prison cell by a starving half-beast who'd as soon gnaw apart our steaming viscera as ravage our virgin flesh is just about the hawtest romance novel scenario a girl could dare imagine!
Luckily for us, Sharie Kohler -- aka Sophie Jordan, she of the well-mannered, yet sensual Regency romance - has created "To Crave a Blood Moon ," and an entire Moon Chaser series of intensely entertaining and wickedly sexy novels of hell-bent adventure 'bout a bunch o lycans (werewolves), hybrids and the lovers who wend their ways into soft, squishy underbelly of werehumanity.
How does a group of Really Awful Werefolks get a good-guy, half-breed lycan hunter to head over to the dark side and give into his basest werewolf nature? Easy! Well...not so easy if we're talking half-were Sebastian Santiago. They can starve him for weeks and toss into his cell a gorgeous innocent when the moon's full and the hunger's upon him.
But that don't mean wolf boy's gonna' nosh on the pretty little morsel. Seems Sebastian's able to hold on to his humanity despite being fully mad with hunger by slaking his thirst, as it were, w/ pretty Ruby Devereaux, the kidnapped Louisian' offered up to him on a dastardly platter.
Ruby's hyper tuned-in to Sebastian's needs, which is nothing new; she's always been nearly suffocated by the desires of those around her. Yet imprisoned as his "captive prey," Ruby's life is changed forever when Sebastian's adversary turns hers and Sebastian's intimate connection from best-enemies-with-benefits to desperate souls searching for some way to find an "ever after," let alone one with something akin to "happily."
If you expect a kind of hairy-visaged, "Teen Wolf" flavah to "Blood Moon," think agin'. Kohler's take on the silver bullet-riddled mythology of yore is decidedly fresh, vigorous and mostly depilated. And the were males are fighters and lovers, deliciously alpha, yet perfectly capable of supporting their independent females, albeit in the sensitive-on-the-inside, jealous, overbearing and animalistic-on-the-outside style we romance fans know and love.
See? Told'ya potential evisceration by a lover's a turn-on; it's all in how you look at it.
What do you love about werewolf romances? How much blood and gore can you take along with your romance lovin'?

I love the Shapeshifters though I'm not into a lot of graphic stuff but i do like the spice of danger and the unknown that you get with the shapeshiftes. In fact I just got the first of Pamela Palmer's Feral Warriors series that I'm hoping to start today. Two of my favorite series is Eileen Wilks Lupi series and CT Adam's and Cathy Clamp's Sazi series.

Thanks for the lovely blog, Michelle!
There's something about when I write paranormals ... I just lose any remaining fears and inhibitions about my writing and stories and let it all pour out!
Becke, I hope you enjoy the book!

Ooooooooh, I love me some hunky wolf-men and these sound absolutely delicious!
My favourite were-novels are those in Patrice Michelle's Scions-series. The first book is primarily about vampires but the second and third one (Scions:Insurrection and Scions:Revelation) both have to-die-for wolf heroes. What I love about them is that they are so absolutely primeval (in a positive way!) and possessive of their mates. And the mating ritual isn't bad, either
- they have to bite their mates to stake their claim and that's just ... *shudder* Have I already mentioned how sexy they are?

Oh, Lisa, I LOVE the biting thing!!! There's a scene from Kressley Cole's "A Hunger Like No Other" w/ that which I was explaining to a friend once when out on a 'girlfriends nite,' and I guess I was getting animated with how hot the scene is and saying, "and then he's taking her from behind and just grabs her neck in his teeth and...," cause I looked up and the bartender was staring at me, slackjawed. Not my finest moment as a 'woman of a certain age.' I love that you've found Patrice Michelle's work. And I'm laughing at: they are so absolutely primeval (in a positive way!) cause we romance lovers know exactly what you mean.

Hi, Sophie/Sharie! It's so obvious with this novel that you lose any remaining fears and inhibitions about my writing and stories and let it all pour out! as you write above. Your 'voice' in paranormal is entirely different from your historical voice, which is a real treat. I hope there will be more Moon Chasers for our slavering wereworship pleasure!

Hey, nelsmom! Great to have you here. Thanks for those recommendations. And I like how you describe the spice of danger and the unknown that you get with the shapeshifters. You really do never know what you're gonna get, I never expected what happened in that Turkish dungeon in this book, and more than one amazing thing happened that really set the book in motion!

I just finished reading my first werewolf novel and I'm hooked!!! It was Kresley Cole's "A Hunger Like No Other." That book was burnin' hot!!! I couldn't put it down!!! I finished it in two days, which is saying something for me, because I'm a slow reader. This recommendation came from someone on the boards. All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Now I learn she has all of these other books that I haven't read. You ladies are the best!!! I keep finding different authors to add to my Wish List each time I come to the boards. I just found some here just now. .My TBR list is growing like crazy!!! WOW!!!!!

What I love about werewolf romances is I lose my inhibitions and fears reading them -- just like Sopie/Sharie does writing them! And see, this book sounds so delicious -- oh, he has to have sex with her instead of eating her? Sounds Grrrreat!

Oh joy another new author to check out, and may I say that I LOVE my paranormal romance be it vampire, werewolf, shapeshifter, dragon, etc... you name it I love it.
And as far as the blood and gore go, well I haven't come across any romance series that involve too much for me to take, and as long as the "good" werewolf/vampire/shapeshifter only kills for honor or for the good of the planet etc then I don't mind when the bad guy gets his just desserts. Take the Black Dagger Brotherhood for example, I mean those boys are some hard core heros who do lots of killing but only when necessary.
So Sophie/Sharie I can't wait to sink my um teeth into your new read.

hi 1lovealways! What a great book! You may notice above my embarrassing story about "A Hunger Like No Other."
The cover also happens to be a fave of mine. I'm so glad that you came over here from the Romantic Reads boards, too! I go there to find new reads, but don't tell anyone! If you like historicals, Kresley Cole has fab ones, too. But everyone's crazed for her paras right now. Come back soon.
Amy. Grrrreat? too funny. But yeah, talk about tension. The description of this scenario made me go all, 'uh, yeah, I'm there now.' I was so glad I remembered which pile the book was hiding in.

Debbie, did i read a little sarcasm in that 'oh joy?" As in, 'oh, joy, i just found another place to hide my tbr piles from my husband?" You've hit the nail on the head, the noble savage thing, although I may be using that term wrong; been outta school a while. In this book, the idea that the bad guys are trying to force the hero to go against his sense of honor is so dern compelling. And, um, Kohler describes him as all dark/broody David-Beckham-ish after he blows the dungeon, so it's totally got that goin for it, too.
isn't it funny, though, how we romance readers don't mind the gore? And some even don't mind a hero who plays on both teams in the evil smackdown; they find it really sexy. I haven't read enough of it to form a really good opinion.
