We're excited to have bestselling author Robyn Carr stopping by on her blog tour. Her latest Virgin River trilogy title, Wild Man Creek, just went on sale February 1. In her post, she shares insight into her writing process, and tells what gets her excited as an author and a reader.
I truly love spinning a story. I fall in love with my characters and am rooting for them as they search for their own Happily Ever After.
My new Virgin River trilogy contains Promise Canyon, Wild Man Creek and Harvest Moon. Promise Canyon is a very passionate story set in Virgin River—a romance between Clay Tahoma, a Navajo veterinary assistant who is also a horse whisperer and Lilly Yazhi, a beautiful young Hopi woman. Clay and Lilly are bonded by the care of a couple of horse—one beautiful Arabian mare who was abandoned and a traumatized Arabian stud colt in need of special intervention. Because the story is set in Virgin River and part of the ongoing series, old friends are present. There are some newcomers besides Clay and Lilly, and some difficult good-byes.
In Wild Man Creek, we meet Colin Riordan is the wild man of Wild Man Creek and Jillian Matlock, uber-gardener. He’s a former Army Black Hawk pilot who retired the hard way by being pulled out of a burning mess of mangled metal and she’s been through the corporate war zone. Not only do these two have to forge completely new personal identities, but for the first time they’re discovering what it’s like to become half of a couple.
One thing I love about Virgin River is being able to explore some of the minor characters from one book in the next. One of the newer characters who you’ll meet in this new trilogy, a very upbeat and handsome young man, will star in Bring Me Home For Christmas, which is coming out in October 2011. He’s found a home in Virgin River and friends he’s very committed to, but being reunited with his ex girlfriend who lives hundreds of miles away forces some very tough choices. And of course, any story about Virgin River isn’t just a romance—it’s also a story about a deeply-knit community.
My stories are about people and their issues and challenges and problems. There will be events that might put them up a tree, but it’s who they are that determines how they will resolve their issues and the eventual outcome of the story.
I’ve been writing for 35 years or so. My first few manuscripts were created at the typewriter. I bought one of the earliest word processors with a check for my third historical romance—and it cost more than my Vista Cruiser Station Wagon!
When I’m not writing, I absolutely love to read. When I’m reading a book in which the story flows seamlessly from page to page, chapter to chapter, the arc always building so that I can’t stand to put the book down and go to bed without knowing what comes next, that’s ecstasy. I happen to not only love to write a character driven story, but that’s my favorite type of reading, too. Characters need to sound the way real people sound, with concise individuality. That’s so important to a story.

Thanks for stopping by Robyn, I love you new Virgin River Trilogy and am just about to open the pages to Harvest Moon to review for Mira. I can't wait to see what's up next in this magical community. This trilogy was my first visit to Virgin River but be assured that I will definitely go back to the beginning and meet everyone from the start.

hi robyn--I really enjoyed Summer In Sonoma--love the way you write. it makes me feel as if i am IN the book's setting.
Admire your longevity of the Virgin River series. I was looking at a couple of the titles--adding to my wish list. And I realized it was a series--I have to start at the beginning--can't miss out on a single one. Will be starting at #1 and cant wait to read all of them!

hi - I love all your books. I even went back to find early books of yours and have found some.
I just finished Blue Skies and loved it. I am reading The Wedding. I wish authors, you inluded, could write faster because I am such an avid reader that when I get a new book it is done in a day. Waiting for Harvet Moon. I hope it is Daniel you are talking about to be in the Christmas book. I hope you expand on Jillian and Colin. I want that garden to become a successful business.
I think of your stand alone books The House on Olive Street was the best. I have a group of friends that would do that if one of us died. Heartfelt and Heartwarming book.
thanks for all the writing that you do.

I love the Virgin River series..have read each one and anxiously await the next book in it. You feel like you know the characters and readers of all ages enjoy them. My 89 year old mom is as anxious to read them as my friends and sisters. I have also read all of Robyn's stand alone books and they're equally addictive. As a seasoned Robyn Carr reader, I recommend you read her Grace Valley triology before starting the Virgin River series as some of the characters are intertwined. If you can't find them, it's not a big deal. Used bookstores are a great resource for some of the older books. It definately helps to read the books in chronological order, but they can be read independently as well.
I read the first few pages of Harvest Moon on Robyn's website and anxiously await it next month.
I'm guessing Denny is the featured VR resident in the Christmas book.
Keep up the great writing Robyn!

And Linda M. you win the doorprize! I don't think there is a doorprize, but if we had one, you would get it. Denny Cutler stars in Bring Me Home For Christmas! The question is -- who is being brought home and WHERE is home? This delightful young man has been ready for love for a while now and nothing sparkles like love at Christmastime. ~Robyn

I thoroughly enjoy all the Virgin River books and look forward to many more, esp. since I now have a NookColor and can take them with me as I travel.

Love, love, love this series. I've read all but four now and hope that Robyn keeps 'em coming. My life is usually so hectic, but reading this series lets me forget about the hustle and bustle for a while. I also don't get as much housework done as before
