Lady Isabella’s Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley
Dear Reader,
Historical romances don’t get much better than this.  It’s just that simple.
Lust, wit, intrigue, romance and abiding love, are weaved together to tell the second tale in Jennifer Ashley’s Victorian Highland Pleasure series.
When Lady Isabella met Mac Mackenzie at her debutante ball the last thing she expected was to be his wife before the night was over. It’s hard to start a marriage when you’re not even sure what side of the bed your partner likes to sleep on. However for three years both Isabella and Mac have a passionate, if somewhat tumultuous marriage. They weather the storm of their elopement but are continued fodder for gossip as it seems Mac is always going off on some adventure and leaving Isabella to fend for herself. Unfortunately Mac leaves one time too many leading to dire consequences, and his marriage ends in a legal separation. Yet more fodder for gossip. Lady Isabella’s marriage is indeed scandalous.  However being separated doesn’t mean the love has died. Quite the contrary, and watching these two work their way back to each other is soul of this book.
This could have been a straight forward story of love found, love lost and love found again.  Instead in the talented hands of Ms. Ashley what we have is the anatomy of a relationship; and it’s told from the middle and works its way towards the edges. Lady Isabella’s Scandalous Marriage is about finding your way through the inevitable minefields that are almost always part of the aftermath for those who fall in love first and get to know each other second.   I was impressed with this author’s ability to skillfully and beautifully deconstruct a relationship so that we clearly see the inner workings and motivations of how it fell apart and what it will take to put it back together again. She demonstrates that no matter how much you love someone, if they can’t give you what you need in order to live a loving and healthy life, then all the love in the world isn’t going to make that relationship work. The book allows us to join the expedition that both Mac and Isabella embark on as they find a way to know each other well enough to give each other what they need.
Both the beautiful prose and dialogue create a tension that unfolds like a well played mystery.  You see, although this is a romance, the mystery is unfolding the inner workings of the relationship between Lady Isabella and Mac Mackenzie. And what a beautiful and heartfelt resolve there is when the mystery is solved.
So dear reader, if you’re looking for a great read might I suggest Lady Isabella’s Scandalous Marriage? I believe you’ll find yourself turning each page with a kind of reverence as you learn how Isabella and Mac’s relationship started, how they grew apart and more importantly how they find their way back to each other. Ms. Ashley guides us with a gentle yet expert hand as we discover the world of two individuals once lost but how with courage and honesty they grow together and become a pair.
Until next Monday, remember there’s a book waiting to be read.

Gannon - I agree, Jennifer Ashley really took us through an incredible journey learning about Mac. I must say by the end of the book Mac became one of my favorite heroes in romance literature.

I can't wait to read this. I love nothing better than a marriage of convenience book, because it invovles everything Ashley does in Scandalous Marriage. And I know Ashley will do it better than m ost.
