Making a Commitment Isn’t Always Easy

Life is happening at warp speed, and although I would like to, making long term commitments isn’t always feasible. Sometimes sticking it out for years and years with a certain hero and heroine or a group of brothers or sisters just doesn’t fit into my busy lifestyle. So rather than committing to ten or more books in a series I sometimes opt for the trilogy. Trilogies are great; they have the best of both possible worlds. They have a continuing story arc but don’t take a decade or more to resolve. The underlying action, tension or mystery along with the characters carries the story arc throughout each book and I know that by the end of book three I’ll have all my questions answered.  It’s a short term commitment that I can live with.

This year, Maya Banks’ McCabe Trilogy is one of my favorites.  It has an historical setting featuring three brothers, Ewan, Alaric and Callen, who risk everything to save their clan. There is plenty of adventure, deceit, and romance cleverly intertwined to keep you engaged and reading. If you’re looking for three Scottish warriors who define the words loyalty and heroism then this is the trilogy for you. It is a compelling series from beginning to end and each book gives you both an endearing romance and an exciting backdrop of high stakes intrigue.

If you’re looking for a romantic suspense and you love a hero who is Navy SEAL then try Stephanie Tyler’s Hard to Hold Trilogy. Jake, Nick and Chris are three brothers by choice, bonded together to face anything that comes their way. This series has ‘maximum pressure, maximum danger and maximum intensity’. If you’re looking for a trilogy where the men have strong bonds and are tied together through the secrets they share and only come fully alive when they meet their soul mates - this one is for you.

In the mood for a contemporary? One of my favorite contemporary trilogies is The Travises by Lisa Kleypas. If you’ve only read her historicals then you’re in for a treat because her contemporary voice is a whole ‘nother thing.  Ms. Kleypas takes us to the heart of present day Texas with three exceptional heroes and heroines. What’s exciting about these three books is the tension between each hero and heroine, and watching them find their way to each other is exhilarating, passionate and romantic.
