In No Place to Run  (Maya Banks’ second installment in her KGI series) there is more adventure, more action, more heat and more to love about the Kelly family.  Give me several brothers who are all ex-military and run a family business consisting of men and women trained in hostage recovery, intelligence gathering and jobs the government can’t officially take on, and I’m in. Throw in, love lost, love found, and guns a blazing and I’m all in.  Maya Banks has created a series that is romantic suspense in its best form; equal parts hot and endearing romance combined with bite-your-nails-to-the-quick suspense and action.

Sam is the oldest brother of the Kelly family, a family I was introduced to and fell in love with in the first book, The Darkest Hour.  Sam never thought he’d see Sophie again, after all he only spent a few nights with her while he was on an  undercover operation in Mexico. True, those nights were unforgettable, but not part of his real life. So when he pulls an injured and half drowned Sophie out the lake behind his house he knows life will never be the same. He’s even more surprised to find out that she’s pregnant with his child and running from the very men the Kelly Group International (KGI) have been working to take down.

After evading capture for five long months, Sophie finally runs to Sam and his brothers because she knows they will protect her and her unborn child.  Unfortunately the Kelly men have no intention of trusting Sophie. They don’t know who she really is or why she’s landed on their front porch; and they certainly don’t trust her motives.  All they know is she’s hurt, scared and pregnant and claims Sam’s the father.

It’s easy to get caught up in the Kelly family and their adventures. They are the kind of fictional family that immediately endears themselves to the reader; and that’s a testament to the author. Maya Banks writes excellent action and is equally adept at writing romance. She combines the two to take you right into the heart of any scene. In the KGI series she also adds the element of characters that will become much beloved and favorites of the genre.  She weaves a magical spell by making these characters part of a group and family that you care about and relate to. The camaraderie, loyalty and love they share are written into each page. There are many ups and downs and twists and turns in this one.  You never know what will happen next, but each new reveal succeeds in creating a thrilling ride. Sophie is a strong and determined heroine and Sam is an alpha who loves with his whole heart. Together they are unstoppable and compelling.

So dear reader, if you’re looking for a taut, gripping and engaging romantic suspense, might I suggest No Place to Run (KGI Series #2)  .

Until next Monday, remember, there’s a book waiting to be read.
