There's a large contingent of readers who regularly post at Romantic Reads who I would describe as Gabaldonians. They are, to put it mildly, fond of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander books, and really who can blame them? The books are a mix of romance, paranormal, time-travel, historical...all with Scottish accents thrown in!
But every once in a great while, these readers actually try other authors, and if you'd like to know what other books will scratch that Gabaldon itch, there's a long list of recommendations here. On that list areThe Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows and Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati, among others. Sara Donati's entire Wilderness series, set in late 1700's America, is Gabaldonian-approved. The epic books trace the lives, love, and family of English-born Elizabeth Middleton and her American-born husband Nathaniel Bonner as they carve out a new life in the wilds of untamed America. Not intrigued yet? Well, word is that a few Outlander characters crop up now and again...Yeah. I thought that'd get ya.
Also over at RR, there's been a fascinating discussion about the level of violence you can tolerate in your romantic suspense novels. What level of graphic violence would turn you off from a book and a writer's other work? Do you ever think there's a place for scenes like this? Weigh in here.
We'd also like to know where to start when reading Sherrilyn Kenyon. What's your recommendation for which series to dive into? And don't worry, we're still - and always - talking about our favorite erotic romances, what we're reading now, and what new books we must rush out to buy today.
That's it for today. I'll be back next Tuesday with possibly the longest list of new releases ever plus a sneak-peak of the November feature titles.
J. R. Ward is visiting CenterStage all week to discuss her latest book, Covet, as well as a certain vampire series she writes.
