Christine Feehan has written over forty paranormal romances featuring strong alpha males. The kind of take charge alphas that if you met them in real life you’d want to immediately lock them in a room with Gloria Steinem for some intensive one on one training and education on how to be an equal partner in a relationship and still feel like a man. However, Ms. Feehan’s books are not real life and the use of both the paranormal elements and her in-depth character development gives her alpha males all the license they need to beat their chests and revel in their machismo yet still come out charming, sincere and romantic. It’s this author’s ability to take strong uber alpha males with intensely tragic back stories and turn them into heroes that make her books work. This is true of her latest release Spirit Bound, the second book in her Sisters of the Heart series.

In Ms. Feehan’s Sisters of the Heart series each book is devoted to one of six very different women who were victims of violent crimes. The women have come together and formed a bond of sisterhood helping each other overcome grief and guilt to forge new lives and find a sense of belonging and peace. Each woman has a special paranormal talent and together they live and work on a farm in Sea Heaven, California.

When artist Judith Henderson arrived at Sea Heaven with her sisters she found a place with the potential for helping her put back the pieces of her life.  While she finds some sense of peace in the art she creates, she lives in constant fear of her paranmoral abilities – because those abilities, if let loose could bring devastation to those she loves.  When she meets Stefan Prankenskii she has no idea he isn’t who he claims to be, but knows her life is about to drastically change.

Stefan Prakenskii’s back story is not unlike his brother Lev’s, who we were introduced to in Water Bound, the first book in the series. As children they were kidnapped and taken to a harsh underground training program where they were forced to become Russian undercover agents.  Stefan’s latest assignment is to recover a stolen micro-chip located in Sea Heaven, but he soon discovers that was never the intended mission, instead he’s being used to flesh out his brother Lev who has a contract out on his life. Unfortunately Judith is smack in the middle of Stefan’s mission and when they come together there is an instantaneous connection between them

Spirit Bound gives this series one more piece to the puzzle of the Prakenskii brothers and glimpses into the other sisters lives and talents. The suspenseful plot has both Lev and Stefan dodging bullets, and the sisters using their powers to help protect them. However much of the book is devoted to Stefan’s feelings towards Judith. He’s never loved before; he’s never felt such a powerful connection to another human being. His self awareness and in turn self discovery is what this book focuses on.

With Ms. Feehan’s trademark alphas and her unique ability to focus on the strong and loving relationships between the women, Spirit Bound continues the adventures in Sea Heaven that we fell in love with during the first book of her Drake Sisters series Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters Series #1)  .
