In the four previous books, Sweet Surrender (Sweet Series #1), Sweet Persuasion (Sweet Series #2), Sweet Seduction (Sweet Series #3) and Sweet Temptation (Sweet Series #4) , Connor has always given the other heroes a hard time for their less then, how shall I put it, ah… vanilla practices and views on sex. He’s also been a man who has repeatedly argued against making a commitment to one woman. In Sweet Possession (Sweet Series #5) Ms. Banks stays true to the character of Connor Malone yet still manages to turn his world upside down. Since Connor has more of a traditional view of sex, Sweet Possession focuses on one man and one woman – Connor and Lyric. And their story is both hot and, ok I’ll say it, sweet; kind of sigh worthy sweet.
When Connor is assigned to be Lyric’s bodyguard his first reaction is “Hell To The No”. He wants nothing to do with this outrageous, paparazzi seeking, wild-child celebrity. As for Lyric, well, she’s a famous singer whose life is not only spiraling out of control but she’s also being threatened by a stalker. For both of them it’s hate at first sight. However her need for Connor’s protection is something she’ll have to resign herself to, and with the two of them living in close quarters you have the makings for some dynamic and explosive situations. I love the ‘hate at first sight’ story line. In this particular journey to love the discoveries that Lyric and Connor make about each other and themselves are revealing, tender and charismatic. They definitely have chemistry.
Connor is an alpha with some very nice beta qualities. His ability to listen to and support Lyric as she traverses the upheavals in her life is a nice contrast to Lyric’s live out loud lifestyle. With Lyric’s troubled and tragic past her first action is always a reaction. She reacts to everything – only later thinking of the consequences. With Connor as an anchor she’s able to take a moment and be honest with another person for the first time in her life.
Sweet Possession introduces a few new characters – and I’m hoping we’ll see more of them in future books. It also brings back the whole gang from the previous books and it’s great to see the interactions between them, especially the heroines of each book. However this book most definitely stands alone and if you’re looking for explosive chemistry tendered with sweet romance, Sweet Possessions has that and more.
