Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Road (Boat) Trip!

Ziki forwards this information to us about a Moby Dick reading marathon and boat tour at the wonderful whaling museum at Mystic Connecticut. I can certainly vouch for the charm and interest of this wonderful outdoor restoration. I hope Moby Dick lovers might consider a trip in the area to enjoy this opportunity!

Melville Marathon
Tuesday & Wednesday, July 31-August 1, 2007 / Noon-Noon; Mystic Seaport, CT

The reading of all 135 chapters of Moby Dick begins at noon on Tuesday, July 31st. It continues overnight, concluding at noon on Wednesday, August 1st, Melville's birthday.

Visitors are invited to participate in the marathon, which includes spending the night aboard the Charles W. Morgan, the last wooden whaleship in the world. Copies of the novel are available for those who want to follow the reading. Visitors, staff, and volunteers can choose to take turns reading chapters throughout the marathon, except for chapter 1, "Loomings," and the Epilogue, both of which are read by an actor portraying Mr. Melville himself! A great white birthday cake arrives at noon on August 1st, marking the end of the marathon.

The Melville Marathon is free with admission; however, space for overnight stay on the Charles W. Morgan is limited.

To reserve a space, contact Joanie DiMartino at 860.572.0711, ext. 5075.

Re: Road (Boat) Trip!

What fun! Do we get to dive into the head of a sperm whale?

Diving in a head?
Tashtego fell into the whale-head and was it not for Queequeg his days were counted....diving into the book (=head of Melville) is dangerous enough.
